Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Friday 16/10/2020

Friday

Weather

The showers will be so few and far between that we should stay dry all day, and the wind will only be a force 2-3 E’ly. I’m not really expecting the temperature to climb any higher than the previous days, but with such a light breeze and with long spells of hazy sunshine, it should generally feel more pleasant.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will remain very small (if not flat). Nothing of value to adults, but probably some nice little ripples to push young kids into, straight after school. The high tides will be just before dawn and just after dusk; 9.4m and 9.8m respectively. Low tide will be just 1m at 1:10pm.

Saturday

Weather

The breeze will be similarly light, but it will veer to a SE’ly direction. That’s pretty much the only notable change from Friday, because we will probably end up with the amount of sunshine and the same 14°C max temperature.

Surf and the Water

Another day of tiny waves (probably flat) but very large tidal movements. The first high water will be about 9.8m at 7:40am, then low water will be about 0.5m at 2pm and the second high water will be about 10.1m at 8pm.

Sunday and Monday

Weather

A couple more dry days with lengthy spells of hazy sunshine. With a steady feed of milder air, the temperature should climb at least half a degree per day, with Monday peaking at 15°C or possibly even 16°C if we are really lucky. Sunday’s wind will be just a light F2-3 S’ly and then Monday’s will be a force 4-5. So, on balance, Sunday will probably feel like the warmest day, even if the mercury rises a bit higher on Monday.

Surf and the Water

Two more days of tiny surf and whopping tides. Thankfully though, the winds are no longer looking strong enough to cause tidal trouble for the Monday morning rush-hour.

The Rest of Next Week

Weather

A very wet and murky day on Tuesday, 10-15mm of rain with a force 5-6 S’ly wind thrown in as a bonus. Then on Wednesday, there will probably only be the odd brief shower, but we will get a real blast from a force 7 SW’ly. The details of Thursday and Friday are too uncertain to speculate on at the moment. But suffice to say that each day will be either wet, windy or both. At least it won’t be cold though, with daytime temperatures in the mid-teens and night-time temperatures not falling below 12°C.

Surf and Tide

The west-coast waves should be clean for the majority of the time, and they will steadily increase in size, until by the first week of half-term, they might even be big enough to go surf on the north coast as well. Whilst those waves are getting bigger, the tidal movements will be getting much smaller, starting with a high of over 9.6m on Tuesday morning, then steadily shrinking to a high of 7.5m around noon on Friday.

The next forecast update should be with you on Sunday evening.
