Monday
Weather
An extremely similar day to Sunday, i.e. bright sunshine and great visibility, punctuated by heavy showers of rain or hail. Most of the showers will be brief and there should be some lovely rainbows to go with them. However, they will sting a bit, because they will be accompanied by a gusty force 5-6 W’ly wind. The temperature will generally be around 11°C by night and 13°C by day. However, it could easily plummet to about 9°C in a hail shower at any time.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be at least as big as it was on Sunday (well over 6 feet), but quite a lot more messy. Definitely a great day for the more expert kite-surfers and windsurfers though. As for sea swimming. High tide Fermain is definitely going to be the best bet (roughly 7.4m at 3:10pm).
Tuesday
Weather
A strong force 6 SSW’ly wind will bring a spell of persistent rain during the morning, but then that will return to a W’ly flow in the afternoon, with that same old cocktail of sunshine, showers and rainbows. The temperature should be at least a couple of degrees higher than on Monday, with a max of 15-16°C in the early afternoon.
Surf and the Water
Some lovely clean west-coast waves in the morning, but the tide will be low at 10:10am (3.5m) so we shall have to cross our fingers for some decent sandbanks. Once again, the windsurfing conditions will be great in the afternoon, and swimming will be good around the 4pm high (roughly 7.9m).
Wednesday
Weather
The sunshine and showers story looks much the same as most other days of late. However, the WSW’ly wind looks likely to be strong force 7 for much of the day and perhaps touch gale force 8 at times.
Surf and the Water
Some really huge swell on this day, big enough that we might even find some overhead barrels at L’Ancresse. It won’t be easy to paddle against that wind, but it could certainly be a treat for the more expert surfers. The tides will be 2.9m low at 10:50am and about 8.4m high at 4:40pm.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
Thursday’s wind will have pretty much the same strength and direction as Wednesday’s. The weather will probably be a bit gloomier though, with cloudier skies and the showers merging into longer spells of rain. Friday will hopefully see a double improvement though, as the wind gradually relaxes to a force 5 SSW’ly and we hopefully see some pleasant afternoon sunshine.
Surf and the Water
Thursday’s surf will be pretty huge again, but not quite as crazy as on Wednesday. Friday, then promises to be clean and manageable on the west coast. Hopefully about 6-8 feet and pretty classic. The tidal range will be pretty large at that end of the week, with highs of about 8.7m around dusk on Thursday and about 9m around dusk on Friday.
The Weekend
Weather
It’s early days, so we can never be too confident about the details. However, Saturday morning currently promises to have the same mild S’ly airflow as Friday afternoon, so hopefully we should salvage at least another half day of fine weather. But then we will probably see much more cloud in the afternoon and evening (and perhaps a little rain). After that, Sunday will most likely be a mix of sunshine and showers, with the wind returning to a strong SW’ly.
Surf and the Water
The surf should be medium sized (probably about 3-5 feet) and mostly clean. The tidal range will be pretty large though, so you will have to be sharp to catch the best sessions. Sea swims certainly won’t be out of the question either, with the air temperature peaking around 17°C on both days and the sea temperature only a couple of degrees behind.
The next forecast update should be here on Tuesday evening.
