Wednesday
It’s one of those showery days, much like many others of late. The WSW’ly winds will be strong again too, mostly force 6 but occasionally force 7 and particularly gusty when the showers are heavy with hail. The temperature will only peak at about 14°C and the wind-chill will make it feel as though it’s even colder.
Surf and the Water
Some really huge swell on this day, big enough that we might even find some overhead barrels at Pembroke. It won’t be easy to paddle against that wind, but it could certainly be a treat for the more expert surfers. Beginners should steer well clear, and swimmers should stick to sheltered eastern spots like Fermain. The tides will be 2.9m low at 10:50am and about 8.4m high at 4:40pm.
Thursday
Weather
The strong force 6 SW’ly wind will keep whistling away, but we will only have occasional drizzle, rather than those heavy showers of Wednesday. We probably won't see and sunshine, but with a warmer airmass over the islands, we should see temperatures climb as high as 16°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be pretty huge again, but not quite as crazy as on Wednesday. The tides will be about 2.3m low at 11:30am and about 8.6m high at 5:20pm.
Friday
Weather
Another cloudy but mild and mostly dry day. The temperature peaking at 16°C in most places, but maybe even 17°C in Town. Don’t get too excited though, because we will still have that force 5-6 SW’ly wind, so it isn’t going to feel especially toasty.
Surf and the Water
The waves will become increasingly clean and manageable on the west coast, probably reducing to about 6-8 feet on the main breaks by the end of the day. The tides will be about 2.9m low at midday and about 8.9m high at 6pm.
The Weekend
Weather
It’s early days, so I’m still not too confident about the timing of events. However, it currently looks like this… Saturday will have a really mild S’ly airflow and we should hopefully salvage at least half day of pleasant sunshine. It does look as though a spell of persistent rain will take out most of the afternoon though. Moving on to Sunday, the wind will return to a very strong SW’ly and the weather will return to that repetitive sequence of sunshine, showers and rainbows.
Surf and the Water
A cracking weekend of west-coast surf, generally 6 feet and clean (occasionally a bit bigger). The tidal range will be pretty large though, so you will have to be sharp to catch the best sessions. Sea swims certainly won’t be out of the question either, with the air temperature peaking around 16-17°C on both days and the sea temperature only 2-3°C lower.
Next Week
Weather
Monday and Tuesday will be just as wet and windy as this half-term week. Then Wednesday looks like a transitional day, before high pressure settle in from Thursday into the weekend. I think the last time we saw a long spell of high pressure was around or even before the Autumn equinox, so it would have translated into pretty warm temperatures. However, we will be in November this time, with the sea and the nearby continent all significantly cooler, the sun much lower in the sky and the days much shorter. Therefore, pleasant as it will be, we can probably only expect max temps of 13-14°C and the nights could easily be cold enough for ground-frost.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be rather big and messy to start the week and then very small and clean to finish. The tides will also be getting smaller, kicking off with highs of around 9m and finishing up with highs of around 7m.
The next forecast update should be here on Friday morning .
