Friday
Weather
A generally cloudy but dry day. There is a chance that the cloud will thicken at times to give a spit and a spot of light drizzly rain, but there is an equal chance that the cloud might thin enough to allow some weak sunshine to filter through. In either case, it will be brief, whilst the most consistent element of the day is the force 4-5 (occasionally 6) SSW’ly wind. Max temperature 16°C, followed by an overnight minimum of 13°C.
Surf and the Water
The waves will be pretty excellent at the main Vazon breaks today, probably reducing to about 6 feet throughout the day, perhaps bigger in the morning. The tides will be 2.9m low at midday and about 8.9m high at 6pm.
Saturday
Weather
Sunny spells to start the day and to finish the day, but sandwiched in the middle will be a spell of rain (a couple of hours either side of noon). Ahead of that rain, we will have a strong S’ly wind which won’t offer many places to shelter (but Pleinmont springs to mind as a lovely place to go for a walk). After the rain, we will be left with a fresh W’ly, meaning that the east coast will a be nice and comfortable area to end the day. Max temperature 16°C, followed by an overnight minimum of 11°C.
Surf and the Water
Great surfing and windsurfing conditions in the morning (both at the more expert end of the spectrum). The wave heights will be about 5 feet. During the afternoon the waves will get much bigger but I’m afraid they will also become much messier. The tides will be about 9m high at 6:10am and 6:30pm. Low water will be a little under 2m, just as that rain is hammering through.
Sunday
Weather
Cloudy, with occasional blustery showers, some of them heavy. Not a very pleasant day, with a strong and gusty SW’ly wind throughout, but it will be marginally more pleasant in Town and other sheltered areas such as Fermain. Temperatures will remain on the mild side, with another max of 16°C, followed by an overnight minimum of 13°C.
Surf and the Water
The 8 foot waves will be tough but manageable for our more experienced surfers, but I dare say that it will be the windsurfers who are really getting the best of it. The tides will be about 9.1m high at 6:40am and 7pm. Low water will be a little under 2m at lunchtime.
Next Week (First Half)
Weather
It looks like a few days of sunshine and showers. Perhaps the odd spell of more persistent rain as a few cold fronts sweep through, because we will see the max temperature dropping off by at least a degree each day, and the wind will have gradually veered from a W’ly direction on Monday to a Northerly direction by late Wednesday.
Surf and the Water
Messy surf, starting off around 8 feet on Monday and gradually dropping off to around 5 feet by late Wednesday (maybe check out the south coast for some novelty fun on Wednesday). The tidal range will get smaller, but not in any great hurry, because it will still be as high as 8.6m at breakfast time on Wednesday.
Next Week (Second Half)
Weather
Dry and sunny on Thursday and Friday and maybe Saturday too (probably wet again by Sunday but it’s too early to say with any confidence). It won’t be particularly warm during this very welcome spell of fine weather though. Daily max temps will probably be a reasonable 14°C (the same as the sea), but the fresh E’ly wind will make you want to keep your jumpers or jackets on.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be beautifully clean but it will quickly become very small, probably only 1-2 feet by late Thursday. Then we might be lucky enough to maintain those small waves through Friday and the weekend, but there is also a high chance that it will become flat. The tidal range continuing to become smaller, with highs of about 7.5m and 7m during the late mornings over the weekend.
The next forecast update should be here on Sunday evening.
