Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Thursday 12/11/2020

Thursday

Weather

Much like Wednesday, we are looking at another dry day, but this time there will be a lot more sunshine, especially during the afternoon. The wind will start off as a moderate to fresh WSW’ly, then gradually back to a SSW’ly direction through the day, lifting the temperature from about 10°C at dawn, to about 14°C in the afternoon.

Surf and the Water

The swell of Wednesday afternoon should have continued to build, with waves reaching heights of 6-8 feet in the morning, but the wind will make them rather messy at that time. The afternoon will see a reduction to about 5 feet but there will be a massive improvement in quality. As for the sea-swimming options, your best bets will probably be Fermain in the morning and then Pembroke in the afternoon.

Friday

Weather

It’s looking very cloudy and perhaps misty or foggy at times. It’s a bit uncertain how wet or dry it will be, with forecast models constantly changing the position of a slow-moving weather-front. If it ends up sitting on top of us then we will be looking at patchy drizzle throughout. However, the latest expectation, is for the weather front to only be over us during the early morning and the late evening, spending the rest of the day over Brittany and probably leaving us dry. In either case, it’s looking pretty gloomy, with moderate SW’ly winds and that same old max temp of 14°C.

Surf and the Water

Semi-clean 5-6 foot surf and the first of this week’s really big tides; roughly 9.2m high at 4:50pm. As for the best sea-swimming conditions, we are probably talking about Fermain in the late afternoon.

The Weekend

Weather

Pretty rotten I’m afraid. Very much the opposite of last weekend, with lots of rain on both days… Saturday’s being rather persistent for much of the morning and the afternoon, then Sunday’s taking the form of occasional heavy showers. On top of all this, we will have a force 5-6 SSW’ly wind on Saturday, increasing to force 6-7 WSW’ly on Sunday.

Surf and the Water

Briefly looking at the surf; beautifully clean 4-5 foot waves on Saturday, then messy 8-10 foot waves on Sunday. Focussing next on the tides… Saturday will have highs of about 9.5m at 5:30am and about 9.7m at 5:50pm, but the wind direction is good for both east and west coast, so we will be looking at the usual splashes along L’Eree, Perelle, Vazon and Cobo, but nothing too troubling. Sunday still looks ok out east, but much worse for the west coast, due to the wind being stronger and more onshore. The highs on Sunday will be roughly 9.9m at both 6:10am and 6:30pm.

Net Week

Weather

Phew, after that very unsettled weekend, a high pressure system will develop over France, extending its dry and sunny conditions across the Channel into southern Britain. The only threat of rain currently looks like a brief spell on Wednesday. As for the wind, we are probably looking moderate to fresh W’lies or NW’lies every day, keeping our temperatures just on the mild side of the mid-November average.

Surf and the Water

Pretty messy surf every day, but there will be cleaner moments when the wind briefly falls light. Wave heights will still be very large on Monday morning but they will be fairly small by Tuesday. As for the rest of the week, with plenty of action in the mid-Atlantic, it looks as though the waves are going to get pretty chunky again.

The next forecast update should come to you on Friday night.
