Wednesday
Weather
A cloudy but trouble-free start. However, that cloud is going to thicken and lower until we have drizzle and patchy hill-fog. That deterioration is going to happen around late morning and lunchtime, and then it’s going to last until mid-afternoon, when the wind changes direction from a SSW’ly to a WNW’ly. This means we might just salvage about half an hour of dryness and brightness before sunset, but I’m afraid the finest Wednesday weather is going to come during the night time.
Surf and the Water
Beautifully clean 3-4 foot surf in the morning and through lunchtime. However, if you can’t get in the water until late afternoon, then I’m afraid it’s just going to be a choppy old mess. The tidal range is starting to shrink a bit… 9.5m high at 8:20am and 1.3m low at 2:50pm.
Thursday
Weather
Long spells of sunshine and only the most isolated of showers, making it generally much prettier than Wednesday. However, it will actually be about 3 degrees cooler (Wednesday’s max 15°C and Thursday’s max just 12°C). To salvage some warmth from that sunshine, you will need to find some decent shelter from the moderate NW’ly breeze. Therefore, the south and east coasts will be the places to go.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will be pretty messy, which is a shame because the swell will have jumped up to an impressive 6-8 feet. Maybe a good day to check out your favourite south-coast nooks for a bit of a novelty session. The tides will be 9m high at 9am and 1.8m low at 3:30pm.
Friday
Weather
Another 12°C day (maybe 13°C in Town if we are lucky), but unfortunately, with the moderate to fresh breeze backing to a WSW’ly direction, we will see the return of grey skies and patchy drizzle.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will be 3-4 feet and rather sloppy, but it will certainly be rideable. As for the tides, they will return to an almost normal size, with a high 8.3m at 9:40am and a low of 2.5m at 4:10pm.
The Weekend
Weather
The light to moderate WSW’ly breeze will be the most consistent element. As for the weather, we aren’t looking at anything too unsettled but it will be a little bit up and down, because we are basically looking at a sheet of cloud that occasionally thickens to give a little light rain and occasionally thins to allow some pleasant brightness.
Surf and the Water
The wind direction isn’t the best, but this will be nicely compensated for, by the shrinking tidal range and the consistent 4-5 foot swell. High water will be 7.6m at 10:30am on Saturday, then 7.1m at 11:40am on Sunday.
Next Week
Weather
It’s looking gorgeous and sunny on Monday, so be sure to make the most of that, because cloud will increase on Tuesday ahead of a rainy spell on Wednesday. Then the rest of the week is uncertain (as you would expect at this range), but it looks much more likely to be wet and windy, rather than sunny and settled.
Surf and the Water
It’s looking like a good week for surf, thanks to the wind being very light on Monday and then predominantly S’ly for the rest of the week. The high tides will be slightly under 7m on Monday and Tuesday and then they will be on the up, until they are over 8m on Friday.
The next forecast update will be on Thursday or Friday.
