Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 20 June 2019

Thursday

Weather

A relatively cool westerly breeze will bing a morning of bubbly clouds and patchy blue sky. There's an outside chance that one of those clouds could drop a brief light shower, but I really don't expect it to happen. Then, by the time everybody is knocking off school or work, those clouds should have fizzled away to give brilliant sunshine. Not much heat though I'm afraid. Top temps of about 16C in most parts, maybe 17-18C in Town.

Surf and Tide

Tiny and choppy on the west coast, but great for some flat-water paddle-boarding on the east. Tides high at 9:20am and 9:30am (about 8.5m), low water at 2:30pm.

Friday

Weather

A straight forward dry and sunny day. Less cloud than on Thursday so watch out for high UV. Temperatures won't even any higher than on Thursday, but most parts will feel a bit warmer because the wind will be a bit lighter (just a force 2 NW’ly).

Surf and Tide

Still tiny in the surf department. Swimming paddle boarding kayaking and coasteering will all be great though, particularly around Petit Bot and Moulin Huey. High water will be 8.2m at 9:50am. Low water 2.4m at 4:10pm.

The Weekend

With the wind from the east, I'm really hoping for just a little bit of surf to sneak through, but unfortunately all forecast models currently predict it to be flat. However, it's still going to be a fantastic weekend to spend on the West Coast beaches, because the temperature should be up to 20C on Saturday and perhaps a bit more on Sunday. Saturday will be the sunniest day, but the wind will be a bit perky at times, so the place to really soak up the sun will be right beside those lovely granite sea-walls. Sunday’s sunshine will be much more hazy and it might even be cloudy by the end of the day, but it will be really warm and the wind will be a big gentler. Maybe all that humidity will lead to some thunderstorms on Sunday night, but as always, it's far from certain, whether they will pass over us or be reserved for mainland France.

Next Week

With winds light and mainly SE’ly or variable in direction, I'm expecting a warm week with virtually every day making it to 20C or perhaps a bit higher. Cloud amounts will vary from day to day though and there is the scope for thundery showers to drift across our area at just about any time. In such situations there can be very large variations in rainfall across very small areas, so suffice to say that there will be some proper deluges in the general area, but it's totally uncertain how much rainfall we will receive ourselves. Aside from the weather, there is a pretty good chance of clean 2-foot surf throughout the week, and with tides getting smaller, there could be lots of opportunities for some fun in the water (sea temps currently 15C and steadily rising).

The next forecast update should be on Friday evening.
