Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 15 March 2019

### FRIDAY

WEATHER

A cloudy day, with plenty of dry time, but also the occasional spell of drizzly rain. Winds will be from WSW, which always makes conditions rather murky when the air is moist. However, because they will still be about as strong as through the previous days (force 5–7), the clouds should always be a few hundred feet above the ground, meaning that the worst visibility we can expect is a little mistiness at times, rather than any disruptive fog. Town will the the mildest and most comfortable area, with a top temperature of about 12C.

SURF AND TIDES

Just a teeny but more surfable on the west coast this day. Best at vazon or portinfer, through the few hours that surround the 6.9m high tide at 20minutes past midday (not for beginners).

SATURDAY

WEATHER

Just as cloudy and damp through the earliest and latest parts of the day, but probably dry and brighter (perhaps even with a brief sunny spell or two) during the late morning and the afternoon. Temperatures will be much the same as on Friday, but with the wind backing SW’ly, there will be a bit of shelter on offer on the west coast too. Try tucking into the southern ends of the bays. I'm thinking of places like Richmond and particularly Portelet.

SURF AND TIDES Slightly better again on the west coast, with a cleanish 6-8 feet for the majority of the day. With a mere 6.9m high tide at 2pm.

SUNDAY

WEATHER

With a very wet cold front expected to have gone through on Saturday night, we should be left with a straightforward sunshine, showers and rainbows kind of a day. Winds will be W’ly on this day, and generally a bit lighter than on the previous days, although still rather gusty when any of those showers sweep through. The top temperature will be in Town just 10C this time.

SURF AND TIDES

Back to choppy, messy waves again. Low water will be 3m at 9:30 am, high water 7.4m at 3:40pm.

NEXT WEEK

The forecast for next week can be divided into two halves, as the high-pressure system that will bring us the dry sunny and settled weather throughout, transitions from southwest of us to southeast of us.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, all promised to have a cool WNW’ly airflow, with temperatures tending to max out at about 10C in most places but maybe 11–12C in Town.

Thursday onwards will see a switch to an ESE’ly airflow, which won't become instantly warm, but given a few days of continental heating, we could see maximum temperatures rise to the mid teens. And this time the west coast is likely to feel warmest. The surf will also be much improved in the latter part of the week, with offshore wind at all the favourite breaks, and low-pressure systems in the mid Atlantic sending us a steady supply of swell. However, don't forget that the vernal equinox is on Wednesday and this means big spring tides to follow. In this case, they will be from Thursday through until Sunday, when most of the highs will be pretty close to the 10m mark.

The next forecast update will be probably be on Sunday.
