Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Monday 22/07/2019

Monday

Weather

Very very similar to the Sunday we've just had… some low cloud bringing the odd misty moment in the morning, but this quickly receding northwards to give a beautifully sunny afternoon. Winds will be light force 2 SW’ly, perhaps briefly touching force 3 but never getting string enough to feel chilly. Temperatures will peak at about 22-23C in most areas, but probably stretch to 24 or 25C in Town. Overnight, it's going to be rather muggy and uncomfortable, as some very warm and humid air pushes in from the south.

Surf and Tide

The tidal movements have shrunk back to a normal / medium size now. High water will be at 10:40am and low water at 4:50pm. Waves will be 2 feet and clean in the morning, lunchtime and late evening. If you like it this small, then seize the moment, because Tuesday is looking a bit chunkier.

Tuesday

Weather

Could this be a 30+C day? It's certainly going to be a real stinker, as they say down under (hot day), with a light E’ly or SE’ly wind bringing air directly from the smouldering continent. Some sea mist is likely first thing, but the air will probably become too dry for it to persist past breakfast time. In the late afternoon, thunderstorms are likely to cross the Channel from France, but they may pass us by to the east or the west, and the clouds will be very high up, so any showers will struggle to reach the ground.

Surf and Tide

Finally some 4-5 feet surf with a bit of power! Winds and tides will be perfect for the best west-coast spots, so I'm looking forward to seeing some pics. Wetsuits will not be required. High water will be 7.6m at 11:10am, low water will be 3m at 5:20pm.

Wednesday

Weather

It's certainly going to be a cloudier and less hot day than Tuesday, but we should still achieve something in the mid twenties. Gentle southwesterly winds may well bring some mist and fog to the southern and western slopes and beaches, so the best place to enjoy the limited sunshine will certainly be along the east coast at places like Fermain

Surf and Tide

The tidal range will be pretty small, with high water at lunchtime and the lows at breakfast and dinner time. The waves should almost match the size and power of Tuesday, but it's uncertain how clean they will be. Even if we do end up with an onshore wind though, then I doubt it will be strong enough to spoil the surf.

Thursday and Friday

Another potentially hot day on Thursday, as winds back to the SE. Friday currently looks cooler though as a fresh W’ly sets in, possibly ushered in by a spell of heavy rain (which could be thundery). In the water, Thursday is looking like another great surf day, especially with the small tides allowing a good session at just about any time of day.

The Weekend

Im afraid this part of the forecast is very uncertain and may change significantly with each update. However, the current expectation is for a rather wet and windy couple of days, as a small low pressure system makes its way across the area. It's precise track will determine the wind direction at various times, which will in turn determine whether the rain is short and sharp or prolonged and drizzly. Equally, it wouldn't take much of a mistake in the current forecast trajectory, for the low pressure system to be steered away from us and simply leave us warm and dry. If you are making plans for an outdoor event, then it would definitely be a good idea to have a wet plan and a dry plan.

My next forecast update should be with you Wednesday evening..
