Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Thursday 25/07/2019

Thursday

Weather

Sunshine will be mostly bright or occasionally made hazy by the development of some high cloud. The only slightly grey moment will be around lunchtime when some low cloud sweeps through, bringing a brief risk of some mist as well. Temperatures will be about the same as on Wednesday (26C) or perhaps a degree lower, because the wind will veer from a gentle southerly in the morning to a moderate northwesterly in the afternoon. To pick your hottest beaches, head west or north in the morning, head east or south in the afternoon.

Surf and Tide

Clean 2 foot surf at Vazon through the morning, followed by some good fun bodysurfing waves at Petit Bot in the afternoon. The tide will be about 7.1m high at half past midday.

Friday

Weather

Kicking off with some showery , possibly with a bit of thunder mixed in. This should have all cleared off by lunchtime, leaving a mixed bag of cloud and sunshine and a gentle westerly airflow. Beachgoers will find the most pleasant conditions on the east coast during the afternoon, where temperatures should peak at about 22C. Probably dry and pleasant in the evening. Just the small risk of a shower. Then a cooler night than of late, with temperatures dipping to between 14 and 15C, so hopefully that will be the recipe for a good sleep.

Surf and Tide

5-6 foot surf and just the lightest of onshore winds, meaning that this could be the most serious surf day for a long time. Wax up your shortboards and enjoy! High water will be just 7m this time, at 1:40pm.

The Weekend

Rather cloudy on Saturday but much more sunny on Sunday. Both days feeling quite a lot cooler than recent times, thanks to a moderate NW’ly airflow bringing air down from the Iceland area, rather than the tropical origins of recent airmasses. On both days, Town should comfortably climb to 21-22C, but most other areas won't exceed 19-20C. The best beaches will be Fermain, Moulin Huet, Saints Bay and Petit Bot.

Next week

A deep low pressure system will be parked just to the west of the channel on Monday. This will draw warm air in from the south but temperatures aren't likely to rocket up because there will also be quite a lot of cloud. I think we can be quite sure that the surf will be amazing though. Tuesday (if not Monday night) will probably see a lot of rain and wind , as the low pressure system makes its way across the UK. The path it will follow and the speed of its movement are both very uncertain though, so this wetness could be gone in by Wednesday or it could be a much more drawn out affair. Either way, it's looking set to stay warmer than average and most probably dry and settled again by next weekend.

My next forecast update should be with you on Saturday evening.
