Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Sunday 28/07/2019

Sunday

Weather

Just like Saturday, we will have a pleasantly average day of summer sunshine. Moderate W’ly winds will prevent temperatures from exceeding 19-20C in most places, but it should allow us to hit 21-22C in Town. As for beaches, the relative shelter of Fermain will make it the location of choice on this occasion.

Surf and Tide

Only 1-2 feet of sloppy choppy surf. The swimming and coasteering options on south and east coasts will be the better bet. Low water will be 3.3m at 10am. High water will be 7.4m at 4pm.

Monday

Weather

An unseasonably deep low-pressure system will have moved up to the mouth of the Channel. Far enough away to give us nothing worse than a high cloud all day, which will turn our sunshine rather hazy. But it will be close enough to give us a strengthening SE’ly wind, which will draw warm air up from the continent. Thus, the north and west coast beaches will be particularly dreamy all day, and the temperature should be peaking in the mid-twenties once again.

Surf and Tide

Albeit small, this is looking like a really good day of surf on the west coast, especially if you are a bit of a novice, who felt a bit over-challenged by last week’s big waves. The best times to go to Vazon will be around dawn, mid-afternoon and perhaps again in the evening. The tides will be 2.9m low at 11am and 7.9m high at 5:10pm.

Tuesday

Weather

By dawn, that deep low-pressure system will have shuffled over the islands, potentially bringing us some heavy rain in the morning. That detail is a little bit uncertain though, because the rain might just move northwards into England, rather than eastwards through the Channel. What is much more certain however, is the strong force 6 SW’ly wind and the rough seas. With gusts of 40-45mph, it's really going to be much more of a day for windsurfing than for sunbathing.

Surf and Tide

What we lose in quality, we shall more than make up for in size. Shortboarding at Vazon and Portinfer will be the order of the day, with a plentiful supply of rather lumpy 5-footers. The tides will be 2.4m at midday and 8.5m high at 6:10pm.

The Rest of the Week

With that deep low taking residence over Northern England and then gradually dying in situ, Wednesday Thursday and Friday should see consistent force 3-4 WSW’ly winds, with little fluffy clouds in an otherwise blue sky. During the nights and early mornings, there will be a slim chance of some showers, but for the rest of the time we shall probably stay bone-dry, whilst the UK cops thunderstorms aplenty.

Look out for my next forecast update on Tuesday or Wednesday.
