Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Wednesday 31/07/2019

Wednesday

Weather

An inbetweener of a day. Waaay nicer than Tuesday but only half as nice as yesterday. The wind will have already dropped significantly by dawn (just a force 4 W’ly) then it will steadily ease back to a force 3 SW’ly in the afternoon and evening, then fall light and variable overnight. Skies will be rather cloudy, with just a few sunny intervals. Showers are not entirely impossible, but we shall probably escape without any. Max temp 20C.

Surf and Tide

3 feet becoming 1-2 feet and rather sloppy all day. Definitely more manageable than windy Tuesday though. The tidal range is getting pretty large now, so the waves will generally be best about two hours either side of high. Low water will be 1pm, high water will be at 6:40am and 7pm.

Thursday

Weather

That's more like it. Lots of sunshine, hardly any wind and a widespread maximum of 21C. All beaches should be equally lovely for a visit and the tides will be great for a lunchtime stroll to Lihou.

Surf and Tide

Glassy clean, but only about 2 feet and rather week. Definitely worth a bit of a play though, if you're a learner or if you've got a big board. Bigger tides again. Highs will be at 7:30am and 7:50pm. Low will be at 1:50pm.

Friday

Weather

Just like Friday in terms of sunshine and windlessness, so the top temperature will probably be the same, but it might just be a degree higher. My top tip for a beach trip would either be to Moulin Huet or Jaonette Bat in the early afternoon.

Surf and Tide

Almost identical small clean waves to Thursday’s. Even bigger tides though, with highs at 8:20am and 8:40pm, and low water at 2:40pm

The Weekend

A bit of an uncertain period, compared to the previous days. Temperatures will certainly be on the rise, as warm air wofts in from France , but there will probably be more cloud than the previous days, due to weather fronts over Southwest England. The wet weather will always struggle to reach us, as it comes up against the warm French air but both days will have a slight risk of showers, mainly in the late afternoons and evenings.

Early Hints for Next Week

It's looking marginally warmer than average for August, albeit neither cloudless or entirely dry. Low pressure will always be close by, to the northwest, so there are bound to be a few weather fronts swinging through; some with showery rain and some with just a bit of cloud. At the moment, Monday is looking the most probable dry day and Tuesday the wettest day, but none of that is very certain right now As for the surf, we should have something clean and rideable just about every day and the tides will be getting steadily smaller and more manageabl.

Look out for my next forecast update on Thursday or Friday.
