Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Wednesday 08/08/2019

Wednesday

Weather

Very very similar to the last couple of days, with a mix of cloud and sunshine, a risk of the odd brief shower and a force 4-5 WSW’ly wind taking us to a top temp 20C in most places but 21C in sheltered parts like Town and Fermain. It's going a bit pear-shaped after this, so best to make the most of this day even if it doesn't sound particularly special.

Surf and Tide

Sloppy 2-3 foot waves all day. High water will be 8.2m at ten minutes past midday. Low water at 6am and 6:20pm.

Thursday

Weather

Overnight, the wind will have backed to a gentler SSE’ly, bringing warm and humid air to the islands. Skies will at least be very cloudy at dawn, possibly rainy. Certainly by breakfast time or mid-morning, fairly heavy rain will have set in, which will probably persist until early or mid afternoon. We are then looking at a rather murky but mainly dry interlude, before heavy rain returns in the evening, this time with a high chance of thunder.

Surf and Tide

Only one foot and week I'm afraid, but super clean. If it is rideable then the really young learners will be loving it. High water will be 7.6m at fifty minutes past midday. Low water at 6:50am and 7:20pm

Friday

Weather

With the rain probably over by breakfast time, we are in for a really toasty late morning and lunchtime. However, through the afternoon, the wind will switch from a force 4 S’ly to a force 5-6 SSW’ly, so the sunshine really won't feel so special. Then, in the evening and overnight, the wind will ramp up to force 7 and we shall probably see a few squally showers. Not a bad idea to take down your tents and put away garden furniture.

Surf and Tide

Pretty much flat at first, but slowly building through the day, with some solid six footes crashing in by dusk. Clean all day, with small tides greatly increasing the options. High water will be 7.3m at 2:10pm. Low water at 8am and 8:30pm.

The Weekend

Big day for windsurfers and kitesurfers on Saturday, with force 6+ SW’ly winds throughout. Everything easing off for Sunday though, when we return to that familiar force 4 WSW’ly. Both days looking partly sunny and mostly dry. Portelet by Pleinmont will be the pick of the beaches on windy Saturday, then the east coast will be back on top for Sunday.

Early Next Week

No precise details to give right now, but it's looking pretty unsettled I'm afraid. Rain or showers alternating with drier, finer spells, as moderate WSW’ly winds maintain seasonally average temperatures.

Look out for my next forecast update on Thursday or Friday.
