Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Monday 02/09/2019

Monday

Weather

With bubbly cloud and plenty of clear spells overhead, we can expect plenty of sunshine during the day and rather chilly temperatures overnight and around dawn. There will be isolated showers in the Channel, but the chances of them hitting the islands are pretty slim. Winds will be very light indeed during the morning, so the sunshine should soon start to feel very pleasant. The wind will be a bit more noticeable in the afternoon (just a force 3 WNW’ly), so the highest temperatures (19C) are likely to be found in the most sheltered parts, like Town and Fermain.

Surf and Tide

Surf; 1-2 feet and rather sloppy but clean. Big tides; 9.9m high at 9:30am and 0.5m low at 3:50pm.

Tuesday

Weather

With the W’ly breeze increasing to force 3-4, it might feel just a tad cooler, despite virtually no change in the weather from Monday.

Surf and Tide

Surf; 1 foot, rather choppy and sloppy, so probably best to just swim n this occasion. Big tides; 9.6m high at 10:10am and 0.9m low at 4:30pm.

Wednesday

Another very similar day in terms of weather, but with just a little variation in wind. This time, it's a slightly stronger NW’ly wind, possibly as strong as fresh force 5. Therefore, it's definitely going to be worth choosing the right area to go for a walk or a swim etc. The most sheltered bays will be Fermain, Moulin Huet, Saints and Petit Bot.

Surf and Tide

A choppy old mess on the west coast. Some clean fun bodysurfing to be done at Petit Bot though, especially in the evening. High water will be 9m at 10:50am. Low water will be 1.6m at 5:10pm.

Thursday and Friday

The broad theme of a clean NW’ly airflow will continue, with great visibility, sunny spells and the slight risk of the odd passing shower. Those southeastern beaches will continue to be the most sheltered location, with Petit Bot getting the best of the waves, temperatures will continue to peak in the high teens during the afternoons and then fall to about 12C overnight. With the autumnal equinox less than three weeks away, the day-length is shrinking by almost half an hour per week at the moment, so it's definitely time to make the most of those lovely daylight hours before and after school/work. That said, Friday night is currently looking like a wet one, so keep an eye on the updates to see how useable that evening will be.

The Weekend

Perhaps some showers first thing on Saturday, but soon becoming dry and sunny. Other improvements include a gradual reduction of the wind to a force 3 W’ly, this perhaps leading to a slight increase in temperature. In the surf; it's a bit of a longshot, but we might just see a pulse of powerful long-distance swell on Sunday, from (ex)Hurricane Dorian.

Look out for my next forecast update on Tuesday evening.
