Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Wednesday 04/09/2019

Wednesday

Weather

Mist, murk and a spell of rather heavy rain to start. It should become dry by mid or late morning though, with the fresh SWly wind switching to NW’ly. Through the afternoon and evening, we should see a good amount of sunshine, but the temperature probably won't exceed 19C and that wind will feel a bit chilly.

Surf and Tide

Surf; 3-4 feet or more on the west coast, but very choppy. Perhaps an afternoon bodysurf at Petit Bot will be a better option. High water will be 9m at 10:50am. Low water will be 1.6m at 5:10pm.

Thursday

Weather

With cool air blowing across the relatively warm Channel, on a moderate to fresh NNW’ly wind, bubbly cloud will develop through the morning, possibly squeezing out the odd shower. There will be some sunny intervals though, and these will become increasingly lengthy as we head through the afternoon. Head to the south coast beaches for the most comfortable conditions.

Surf and Tide

Surf; very mess on the west coast again I'm afraid. The south coast could serve up some more small clean waves if we are lucky though; possibly at Petit Port as well as Petit Bot. High water will be 8.3m at 11:30am. Low water will be 2.3m at 5:50pm.

Friday

We might salvage a few hours of brightness and pleasantness during the morning. However it's generally going to become cloudy through the day as a weather front approach from the north. The biggest question is what time the rain will set it in. It currently looks to be around dusk, but it could easily turn out to be a little sooner or later. Winds will be light or moderate WNW’ly, so Town and Fermain will probably be the most comfortable areas on this day.

Surf and Tide

Maybe a bit cleaner on the west coast this time, thanks to a significant weakening of the onshore wind. Wave heights should be about 2-3 feet at best. High water will be 7.5m at ten past midday. Low water will be 3.1m at 6:40pm.

The Weekend

Friday night’s rain should have cleared southwards by breakfast time on Saturday, if not sooner. After that, we are looking at a weekend of mixed cloud and sunshine and only the smallest risk of a brief light shower. Winds is will be force 3-4 N'ly, so it's going to be great to head to the south coast again. The tides will be high around lunchtime though, so you won't see much sand on the beaches unless you go early or late. Nowhere is going to be especially warm I'm afraid; 18C should be the max on both days.

Next Week

Perhaps another brief spell of rain on Monday or Tuesday, but then we will probably become increasingly dry, sunny and perhaps a little warmer, as high pressure builds through the second half of the working week
As for the surf, and when we might see the powerful long-distance swell, from (ex)Hurricane Dorian; well that currently looks set to arrive on Wednesday or Thursday, so it seems that there is plenty to get excited about.

Look out for my next forecast update on either Thursday evening or Friday morning.
