Saturday
Weather
A cloudier morning than afternoon, much the same as the previous days. However, on this occasion the sunshine should prevail slightly earlier. This minor difference, along with a slight reduction in the NE’ly wind (just moderate force 4 and less gusty this time), will result in a max temperature of 17-18°C, rather than the pathetic 15°C of the past few days.
Surf and the Water
Flat surf but decent swimming conditions in one or two sheltered areas (west and south) around high water. High tides will be at 6:40am and at 7pm (8.4m and 8.7m). Low tide will be at 1pm.
Sunday
Weather
A bit of give and take… pretty much unadulterated sunshine, but this will be compromised by an increase in the NE’ly wind to fresh force 5. The resultant max temperature still around 17°C but exposed areas feeling a little more chilly, so there will be greater need to find shelter. Once again, these sheltered spots will generally be found along the south coast and in a few west-coast nooks.
Surf and the Water
A great day for windsurfing and kite-surfing. Once again, we will also have decent swimming conditions in one or two sheltered areas (west and south) around high water. High tides will be at 07:20am and at 7:40pm (8.7m and 8.9m). Low tide will be at 1:45pm.
Monday to Wednesday
Weather
Sunny for the vast majority of the time, but regrettably spoilt by the persistence of this nauseating ENE’ly wind. Daily max temps will be around 16°C and nightly min temps will be around 11°C.
Surf and the Water
High tides will be around breakfast time and sunset (generally between 8.7m and 9m). Low tides will be in the mid-afternoons.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
There are 3 possibilities according to recent updates in the various forecast models. Scenario A is the least desirable but the most likely… no change whatsoever to this tedious regime of dry and sunny but cool and brisk ENE’ly winds. Scenario B is a tiny but favourable change… winds veer to an ESE’ly direction, raising the temperatures by a couple of degrees but having no other noticeable effect. Scenario C is perhaps the most desirable but the least likely… winds will fall quite light and back to a NW’ly direction, making everyone more comfortable, especially along the east coast where winds will have been relentlessly onshore for over three weeks. As I said, scenario A seems to be the most likely, because this is what the majority of forecast models are predicting, but there is a slim chance that scenarios B or C might prevail. However, farmers and growers should be aware that in all cases, it looks highly unlikely that we will see any rain until the second half of June at the earliest.
Surf and the Water
Very little change except for the tidal movements… High water will be in the late mornings (8.5m on Thursday and 8.1m on Friday). Low water will be in the late afternoons.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
