Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Wednesday 11/09/2019

Wednesday

Weather

With a force 4-5 WSW’ly wind bringing much more humid air than of late, cloud will be steadily thickening and lowering. Spits and spots of light rain are likely through the morning, and then the afternoon looks set to turn more definitely drizzly and misty. It's uncertain whether we will get any fog up at the airport, but if we do then it's most likely to be in the evening and overnight.

Surf and Tide

Not nearly as good as Tuesday, but the choppy 2-3 foot waves should still be consistently surfable at Vazon and particularly at Portinfer. As for the tides, low water will be just after midday, and the medium size highs will be around dawn and dinner-time.

Thursday

Misty, foggy and perhaps drizzly through most of the morning, breaking up into hazy sunshine at times in the afternoon. Those sunny moments should feel particularly warm in Town, where temperatures could climb as high as 21C. Winds will remain force 4 WSW’ly, much like on Wednesday.

Surf and Tide

The surf will be just like Wednesday but a foot or two bigger. Tides and winds should both be best during the first half of the morning. Low water will be at 12:50pm and the two highs will be about 8m at 6:30am and 8.5m at 6:50pm.

Friday

Weather

Although high pressure will be settling over the UK and our wind will be switching to a NE’ly, it will probably take half a day or so to shake off the cloud and the threat of drizzly showers. By late afternoon however, there should be plenty of sunshine and other good reasons to be piling down the beach (see below)…

Surf and Tide

Clean 3-5 feet surf on the west coast and even cleaner 1-3 feet waves on the south coast if we’re lucky. The tides will lend themselves to the first half of the morning and the second half of the afternoon, because they will be quite big. The two highs will be 8.4m at 7am and 8.8m at 7:20pm. As for low water, well that will be quite good for such things as walking to Lihou; just 2m at 1:10pm.

The Weekend

Temperatures will climb well into the twenties, as sunshine prevails on both days. Saturday, with its force 4 ENE’ly wind, won't feel quite so warm as Sunday. Sunday, with just a force 3 E’ly, will import more heat from France so that one is really going to be a treat. Furthermore, the UV index probably won't exceed 5, so you won't have to nearly as extravagant with the sun cream as the last time we had this kind of heat. As for the surf; it will be rather hindered by the tides, but we should still enjoy some clean 2-3 feet waves on Saturday and then cleaner 1-2 feet waves on Sunday.

Next Week

Staying lovely at least until Wednesday. After that, it's too uncertain to say anything for sure. If things go downhill then it certainly doesn't look likely to be too dramatic a change. The only thing we can be sure of is that the days are getting shorter and the sun is getting lower, with the equinox just around the corner (in the early hours of Monday 23rd).

Look out for my next forecast update on Friday evening.
