Wednesday
Weather
Definitely one of the better weather days, in the wet and windy context of the month so far. Through daylight hours, the moderate force 4 W’ly wind will gradually relax to light force 3 or possibly even light force 2 before dusk. This means that the east coast will feel much nicer than the other coasts through the morning, but all coasts should feel pretty equal later. There will be the odd shower in the Channel, so it’s not out of the question that one or two may hit the Islands, but we are far more likely to stay dry. We should be treated to a little bit of sunshine at times, especially late morning and lunchtime, enabling us to reach a comfortable max temp of 13-14°C.
Surf and the Water
Rather choppy 6-8 foot surf in the morning, shrinking but improving to clean 4-5 foot waves in the afternoon. Good swimming conditions at sheltered eastern spots all day long. Pretty good around the rest of the Island towards the end of the day. High tide will be about 9.1m at 7:20am. Low tide will be at 1:45pm.
Thursday
Weather
Through Wednesday night, some heavy rain will have developed and the wind will have spruced up to a strong force 6 SSE’ly (possibly even strong force 7). Going through the morning, the rain will likely die out and the wind will gradually veer to a W’ly direction, possibly reducing to moderate force 4. Don’t be fooled into thinking it’s all over though, because we will then be in for a brief blast of strong force 7 and very gusty NW’ly winds, only relaxing to moderate force 4 around dusk. Temperatures will actually be highest first thing in the morning… 13°C, dropping off to about 11°C by the afternoon and then falling to about 9°C after dusk.
Surf and the Water
Clean 3-4 foot waves will be available to surfers through the first half of the morning, the strength of that offshore wind will be hard to manage though. The rest of the day will be a bit of a write-off for surfers though. High tide will be about 9.1m at 8am. Low tide will be at 2:20pm.
Friday
Weather
Rather like Wednesday, this will be a relatively fine day weather-wise. Mixed cloud and sunshine, with just the small chance of a shower. Moderate force 4 NW’ly winds will kick off the day, then light force 3 SW’ly winds will take us into the evening. Max temps 12-13°C.
Surf and the Water
3-5 foot surf, choppy in the morning, then cleaning up through the afternoon. Swimmers will find the best shelter on the west and south coasts. High tide will be about 8.6m at 8:30am. Low tide will be at 3pm.
The Weekend
Weather
The wind will become strong again… 5-6 SSW’ly on Saturday, then force 6-7 WSW’ly on Sunday. Sunny intervals and showers will be the overall weather-story, although there could be some more persistent drizzly rain for a time on Saturday morning. Mild though, with temperatures peaking around 14-15°C each day and remaining in double figures during the nights.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will get significantly bigger through these two days… 3-4 feet to start, eventually peaking around 8-10 feet. The waves will be cleanest on Saturday morning, so the west coast will certainly be the place to go then, but the north coast might offer something more manageable on Sunday. Windsurfing should be pretty great on both days. The tides will be high in the mid-mornings (8.3m and 7.9m respectively). Low tides will be in the late afternoons.
The next forecast update will be on Friday…
