Saturday
Weather
Fresh force 5 SSW’ly winds will being us a morning of persistent and rather heavy rain. This will no doubt lead to some pretty huge puddles given the saturated ground. A similar amount of rainfall to that of Thursday morning (just gone). The afternoon will see drier and slightly brighter conditions, brought to us by a WSW’ly wind (still fresh force 5 for the most part). Mild air throughout the day, enabling us to reach a comfortable max temp of 15°C despite the lack of sunshine.
Surf and the Water
Clean 2-4 foot surf in the morning, followed by choppier 4-6 foot surf in the afternoon. Swimming conditions will generally be best on the east coast in the late afternoon, when the rain and associated run-off has significantly reduced. High tide will be at 9:20am (8.3m). Low tide will be at 3:45pm.
Sunday
Weather
The wind will continue to blow from the WSW… a little harder than on Saturday afternoon though – strong force 6 for the most part, perhaps briefly strong force 7 around lunchtime. Skies should be brighter though, and the chances of catching some showers will be significantly lower. The air will remain on the mild side (max 14°C), but you will really have to find a sheltered area, such as Town or Fermain, to enjoy it.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will be big and rather choppy (10-12 feet). The windsurfing conditions should be pretty epic for the Island’s experts though. Up on the north coast, surfers might be able to find a more manageable session, with clean 2-4 foot waves being likely there. As for a nice sheltered swimming spot, well Fermain is really the only one I can think of. High tide will be about 7.9m at 10:10am. Low tide will be at 4:40pm.
Monday and Tuesday
Weather
These days will see a shift in the wind, which will introduce some cooler air to the Islands. The weather story being one of sunshine, showers and rainbows. Monday will be the windiest day (showers most frequent and heavy)… strong force 6 WNW’ly and a max temp of 13°C. Tuesday will only have a moderate force 4 NNE’ly wind (showers fewer and lighter) but the temperature will only just manage to reach 12°C on that day. The sheltered coasts will always be the most comfortable… east coast on Monday and south coast on Tuesday.
Surf and the Water
The west coast surf will be a huge frothy mess on Monday, but there could be some cleanish 3 footers to mess about with, down on the south coast in the early afternoon. Tuesday morning’s waves will be beautifully clean on the south coast, but the question is whether or not they will even be big enough to surf a longboard. Tides will be high around midday (7.6m and 7.4m respectively) and low after dusk.
Wednesday to Friday
Weather
With a high pressure system moving from the Atlantic into Biscay and then into France, these three days should be mostly dry, with a decent amount of sunshine at times... Wednesday should be the sunniest day, with a light force 3 N’ly breeze and a max of 11-12°C. Thursday should gradually become cloudier, as the wind gradually swings round to become a moderate force 4 W’ly (a probable max temp of 12-13°C). Friday’s wind then returning to the old familiar fresh force 5 SSW’ly, meaning that the cloud will be thickest, eventually leading to rain and drizzle, but also lifting the temperature to a max of 14°C.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will probably be flat on Wednesday, 2-3 feet and weak on Thursday, then 3-5 feet and reasonably powerful on Friday. Swimming conditions will be best on Wednesday and Thursday. Windsurfing conditions will be best on Friday. Low tides in the early to mid-mornings. High tides in the mid to late afternoons.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
