Monday
Weather
Sunshine and showers… the showers being most frequent in the morning and the sunshine most prolonged in the afternoon. Wind-wise we will start off with the strong force 6-7 W’ly wind that was introduced on Sunday night, but by the end of the day we will just have a force 4-5 NNW’ly. The temperature will actually be highest in the morning, whilst the weather is most foul (12-13°C), then in the afternoon it will drop off to 11-12°C, before falling to an overnight minimum of about 10°C.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will be very big and very messy. However, the south-coast novelty spots will be increasingly clean, probably maintaining about 2-4 foot waves right up until dusk. Expert windsurfers will enjoy the north and west coasts, but swimmers really ought to stick with the extreme shelter of eastern bays like Fermain. High water will be about 8m at 11:20am. Low water will be around 6pm.
Tuesday
Weather
Apart from the chance of a shower, mainly in the evening, we are looking at a dry day with some brightness or soft sunshine likely. The downside will be that the N’ly wind will feel rather chilly… fresh force 5 in the morning, reducing to moderate force 4 in the afternoon. Max daytime temperature 11-12°C. Min overnight temperature just 8-9°C.
Surf and the Water
Again the west coast surf will be a mess, but the south coast will be clean. However, there is only a slim chance that the waves will be big enough to ride down there. If they are big enough, then it’s only likely to be during the morning, and I honestly think a simple bodysurf would be more rewarding. The south coast will also be the best venue for our cold-water swimmers. High water will be about 7.4m at lunchtime. Low tides will be before dawn and after dusk.
Wednesday to Friday
Weather
The NW’ly breeze will be barely noticeable on Wednesday (only light force 2-3) and the accompanying dry/partly-sunny conditions should feel very comfortable. However, that NW’ly wind will crank up to moderate force 4 for Thursday and Friday and the skies will be mostly cloudy. The max temps will be about 12°C each day, but Wednesday will obviously feel nicest due to the lack of wind.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will probably be flat on Wednesday, 3-4 feet but rather choppy on Thursday and Friday. Swimming conditions will be good on most coasts on Wednesday, but notably best on the south coast through Thursday and Friday. Low tides in the early to mid-mornings. High tides in the mid to late afternoons.
The Weekend
Weather
Winds will strengthen (strong force 6 at times) and back to a WSW’ly direction, bringing a succession of showers and perhaps one or two longer spells of rain. Temperatures will be a little higher though, likely peaking around 13°C each day, then only falling to around 11°C each night.
Surf and the Water
The west coast will have choppy but rideable 3-4 foot surf, whilst the east coast hosts the smoothest swimming conditions. Tides will be low in the late mornings and high around dusk (roughly 9m).
The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
