Saturday
Weather
A day of sunshine and isolated showers, with excellent visibility both for looking across to France and the other Islands and also for just admiring the magnificent cloudscape. Cold air is the reason for the superb clarity, but this does mean that the temperature will peak around the same chilly 7°C as the previous days. The morning should feel really comfortable due to the SE’ly wind being so light (force 2-3). The afternoon will be slightly breezier though, with a force 3-4 SSW’ly. The overnight temperature will certainly be higher than of late though, with a minimum of about 6-7°C
Surf and the Water
Flat surf but lovely swimming conditions for those who are tough enough. High water will be at 9:10am (8.1m). Low water will be at 3:40pm.
Sunday
Weather
Windier than Saturday, also a bit cloudier, with more frequent showers. However, it will be milder, because the force 4-5 SSW’ly should bring air of about 10-11°C over the Islands. The south coast will always be exposed, but there will be sheltered nook on all the other coasts, where you could still manage to have a relatively pleasant winter walk.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be almost flat again. We might just be treated to some clean 1-2 footers in the afternoon, but those waves will be very weak and tides won’t be favourable for surfing. High water will be at 9:45am (7.6m). Low water will be at 4:20pm.
Monday
Weather
This is going to be a particularly windy day. In fact that wind will probably have already started blowing very hard in the night time (which is when we will also have the bulk of the rainfall… possibly as much as 20mm or more). The peak wind will probably be a force 6-7 S’ly around dawn, then this will pretty soon switch to a force 5-6 NW, which will see us through the rest of the day. That NW’ly will bring sunshine, isolated showers and a couple of pretty rainbows here and there. The max temperature should be about 10°C. The overnight minimum about 7-8°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be 2-3 feet, clean and weak first thing in the morning, but it will soon turn to a very messy 4 feet. A great day for windsurfing and kite-surfing though. High water will be at 10:30am (7.2m). Low water will be at 5pm.
The Rest of Next Week
Weather
In a generally changeable weather regime, forecast confidence is always pretty low beyond day 3 or 4. However, there has been some consistency from the computer models, in their description of Tuesday and Wednesday being mostly dry with very light winds, followed by rather stormy weather on Thursday and Friday. It’s a bit uncertain which of those two days will have the strongest SW’ly wind, but it looks as though it could easily get up to gale force 8n at some time or another. Temperatures will find an upward trajectory though… Tuesday night will no doubt be cold, under prolonged starry skies, but by late Wednesday the temperature will be up to 11 or 12°C, and it might even climb as high as 13°C on Thursday and Friday.
Surf and the Water
This is definitely the more surf rich end of the forecast… nothing particularly epic but enough to keep us lubricated… increasingly clean waves on Tuesday, then beautifully clean waves through Wednesday, Thursday and possibly Friday too. Size-wise, it will probably be a gradual increase from 2-3 feet to about 5 or 6 feet. Tidal movements will be small, with highs of around 7m in the late morning on Tuesday, then in the early afternoons thereafter.
The next forecast update will be on Monday…
