Tuesday
Weather
Sunshine, showers and rainbows, all whistling through on the gradually decreasing NW’ly wind (strong force 6 around dawn, moderate force 4 by dusk). Not the warmest day, but not the coldest either. Holding pretty steady around 8-9°C until almost midnight, then becoming decidedly chilly in the second half of the night as the wind falls light, plummeting to a minimum of 4-5°C.
Surf and the Water
Very choppy west-coast surf, there might be some clean rideable 2-footers down south though, probably most suitable for bodyboarding. South coast bays will also play host to the best swimming conditions (along with a couple of eastern spots such as Fermain). High water will be about 7m at 11:30am. Low water will be before dawn and shortly after dusk.
Wednesday and Thursday
Weather
Wednesday will start cold and calm, but temperatures will gradually rise in the hazy sunshine and the increasing SSE’ly wind… light force 3 at dawn, fresh force 5 by dusk then strong force 7 by midnight. That force 7 wind will hold though most of Thursday… SSE’ly to start, SW’ly to finish. Weather-wise, Wednesday should be nice and dry but Thursday will have lots of rain, especially in the morning. Temperatures will peak at 10-11°C on Wednesday and then 12-13°C on Thursday (but obviously that wind will make it feel as if it’s cooler than that).
Surf and the Water
Super-clean surf on both days, gradually picking up from about 2 feet at the start of Wednesday to about 8 feet by the end of Thursday. Excellent tidal movements for surfing too, nice and small, meaning that rideable conditions will be easy to find throughout daylight hours. High water will be 6.8m around 12:40pm on Wednesday and 7m around 2pm on Thursday.
Friday and The Weekend
Weather
Unsettled is the theme for these three days, as a series of weather fronts sweep through, giving spells of rain or heavy showers, interspersed with a few moments of sunshine (perhaps more prolonged on Saturday afternoon). The wind direction will vary between S’ly and W’ly The wind strength mostly fresh force 5, but briefly relaxing to moderate force 4 at times and stepping up to strong force 6 or 7 at other times. Temperatures all on the mild side, daily maxima of about 13°C, nightly minima of about 10°C.
Surf and the Water
Low tides will be in the early to mid-mornings, high tides will be in the mid to late afternoons (7.3m, 7.7m and 8m respectively). Lots of surf action (most of it fairly clean)… varying between 4 feet at the smallest and probably 8 feet at the biggest. Great windsurfing and kite-surfing conditions too.
The next forecast update will be on Wednesday evening…
