Saturday
Weather
The heavy overnight rain and the associated strong S’ly wind shouldn’t persist for any more than the first hour or two of daylight. The substitute for the rest of the day being a similar ly strong W’ly wind (force 6-7) with increasing amounts of sunshine. It’s not out of the question that there might be another shower or two in the latter part of the day, but if that is the case then they will be very brief indeed. Max temperature a rather balmy 13-14°C, but that wind will obviously take a bit more than the edge off it. As for the overnight temperature, that will likely stay in double figures too, with a minimum of 10-11°C.
Surf and the Water
Very big and choppy surf along the west coast. As for the north and south coasts, there might be a little more shelter at the likes of Pembroke or Petit Bot, but even these spots will be a bit messy and shapeless. Sea swimmers will obviously have very limited options on a day like this… high tide Fermain is the only one that I would consider. High water will be about 7.7m at 3:50pm (low water having been mid-morning).
Sunday
Weather
Not quite as windy as Saturday but still a more frisky than would be ideal… force 5-6 SSW’ly at dawn, veering WSW’ly by lunchtime and staying thereabouts through the rest of the day and the night. Weather-wise it will be cloudy with drizzly rain through much of the morning, then slightly brighter in the afternoon with just the odd brief shower (still rather heavy though). The air still very mild despite the rather rotten weather, with max temps of 13-14°C and min temps of 11-12°C.
Surf and the Water
Some fairly clean 6 foot waves in the morning, then messy surf of a similar size in the afternoon. A great day for windsurfing and kite-surfing, especially in the afternoon. Low water will be at roughly 10:40am and high water at roughly 4:30pm (8.1m).
Monday to Wednesday
Weather
The rollercoaster ride continues throughout these three days, as we bounce with remarkable regularity between sunny spells and heavy showers. There will be some day to day wind changes though… Monday will start with a force 4-5 W’ly then finish with a SW’ly of the same strength; Tuesday will maintain that SW’ly direction but spruce up to strong force 6; then Wednesday will switch right around to a force 5 N’ly. The temperatures responding to these wind directions… mild on Monday and Tuesday (daily maxima of roughly 13°C), then cooler on Wednesday (max temp just 10-11°C).
Surf and the Water
Monday’s surf will be proper big… semi clean 10+feet on the west coast and super-clean 3-5 feet on the north coast. Tuesday’s surf, even cleaner but probably a couple of feet smaller than Monday’s. As for Wednesday, the only clean waves will be on the south coast but we will have to wait and see if they look big enough to bother with (2 feet is my best estimate). Tides will be low around midday and high shortly before dawn and shortly after dusk (incrementally increasing from 8.3m to roughly 9m).
Thursday and Friday
Weather
The relatively calm and settled end of the working week, thanks to an area of high pressure building over Northern France (there are hints that it might well continue into the weekend as well). It’s unsure how clear or cloudy the skies may be. This won’t affect the general relaxed feeling that is brought about by the lightness of the wind, but it will affect the fluctuation of the temperature. Cloudy skies will mean that we bounce between night time temps of 6-7°C and daytime temps of 9-10°C. Clear skies will mean that the daytime temps are at least 1 degree higher and night-time temps are at least 2 degrees lower.
Surf and the Water
High tides will be about 9m at breakfast time. Low tides will be in the early afternoons. Surf-wise, we are probably looking at 2-3 feet on Thursday, then 3-5 feet on Friday. The winds onshore (NW’ly) but so light that the waves should still be lovely and clean.
I will be in Morrocco without wifi for a week, so the forecast will be updated whenever possible (hopefully Monday)…
