Tuesday
Weather
The SW’ly wind will be fresh force 5 for the majority of the day, moderate force 4 at times in the morning, and occasionally strong force 6 through lunchtime and the latter part of the day. This will bring a mixture of cloudy and sunny skies, along with one or two heavy showers and compensatory rainbows. The temperature should peak around 12°C by day, then fall to a minimum of 9 or 10°C overnight.
Surf and the Water
Solid 6 foot surf, cleanest in the morning. Windsurfers and kite surfers will find it slightly better in the afternoon though. Tides will be about 8.7m high slightly before dawn and after dusk. Low tide will be around midday.
Wednesday
Weather
The wind will have veered to a NW’ly direction by dawn and it will further veer to a N’l by lunchtime, but the strength of the wind won’t really have changed… still fresh force 5 for the most part, perhaps occasionally strong force 6 when showers either hit or come close to hitting the island. As with Tuesday, the skies will be a mixed bag of cloud and sunshine. And if you remember to keep looking up then you should also be treated to one or two decorative rainbows. Cooler air than over the past few days. This time we are looking at a daytime max of just 10°C and an overnight min of 7 or 8°C.
Surf and the Water
The west coast waves will be about 6 feet again but horribly messy. There could be some clean 2-3 foot fun on the south coast if anybody fancies the novelty. Windsurfers and kite surfers will be treated to another great day. Tides will be about 8.9m high slightly before dawn and after dusk. Low tide will be at 12:50pm.
Thursday and Friday
Thursday’s forecast has taken a bit of a disappointing downturn, with the morning now looking cloudy and damp. However, the afternoon should be dry and increasingly sunny, and the wind will have relaxed to a moderate force 4 WNW’ly, so it should eventually feel like an improvement on the past few days. Then it will be a bit of give and take on Friday… cloudier skies but totally dry with the wind relaxing to a light force 3 WSW’ly. Temperature-wise, there will be a bit of a subtle recovery… 10°C for Thursday’s max and 11°C for Friday’s. The overnight minima will most likely be 8 or 9°C.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will be about 2-3 feet on both days (perhaps 4 feet on Friday afternoon), choppy on Thursday but slightly cleaner on Friday. The lighter winds be more pleasant for sea swimmers, especially on the east coast. Tides will be high around dawn (roughly 9m) and low in the early afternoons.
The Weekend
Weather
This is looking like a dray and pleasant weekend of gentle SW’ly breezes and occasional winter sunshine. The daytime temperatures are fairly predictable, with 11 or 12°C being the most likely maxima. Night time temperatures will depend on cloud cover though, starry skies would lead to minima of 5 or 6°C but cloudier skies would keep temperatures comfortably around 8 or 9°C.
Surf and the Water
Fairly clean 3 foot waves on both days. And some pleasant conditions on most coasts for a winter swim. High tides will be around breakfast time (8.9m and 8.7m respectively). Low tides will be in the mid to late afternoons.
I’m in Morocco this week (without wifi), so the forecast will be updated whenever possible, hopefully Thursday…
