Guernsey Weather Fox

Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 16 December 2023

The Weekend

Weather

A couple of partly sunny/partly cloudy but totally dry days. Winds will be nice and light through most of Saturday (force 3 SSW’ly) then only marginally stronger on Sunday (force 4 and still SSW’ly). This will bring a consistency of temperature… daily maxima of 11-12°C and nightly minima of 8-9°C.

Surf and the Water

Clean 2-3 foot waves for surfers. Decent swimming conditions too, considering the time of year. High tide will be about 8.8m at 8:30am, then low tide will be at roughly 3pm.

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

A couple of days with similar temperatures due to the similar wind direction. The wind will steadily strengthen though, due to an approaching soggy weather-front, which will eventually arrive around lunchtime Tuesday. When that happens we will not only get wet for a few hours, but the force 5-6 SW’ly wind will veer to a WNW’ly direction, and it will roughly hold that direction for the rest of the working week. As for Monday and Tuesday’s temperatures, much like over the weekend, the highest temperatures should be about 12°C and the lowest should be 9°C.

Surf and the Water

Cleanish 3-4 foot waves on Monday, picking up to 5-6 feet but also becoming very messy on Tuesday. Swimming conditions will consistently be best along the east coast, but there will be northern and western nooks that are also favourable on Monday morning. High tide will be just after 10am Monday (8.3m) and just after 11am Tuesday (8.1m), then low tide will be shortly after dusk.

Wednesday to Friday

The WNW’ly wind will only be moderate force 4 on Wednesday, but it will increase to force 5-6 through Thursday and then strong force 6 to 7 through Friday. However, unsettled as that may sound, skies will be mostly dry and bright. Showers will develop over the Channel but they will be few and far between, so it will only be the odd one that actually manages to hit the Island. Furthermore, those showers will be very brief as the strengthening wind will quickly whisk them away to Normandy.

Surf and the Water

We will most likely maintain 3-4 foot surf, but it will always be very choppy. Windsurfing conditions should be excellent though, especially on Thursday and Friday. Swimmers will always find that the east coast is smoothest, especially down at Fermain. Medium sized tidal movements with lows around dawn and highs around lunchtime.
