Thursday and Friday
Weather
Two straight forward days with respect to wind and temperature… strong force 6 WNW’ly winds (possibly touching force 7 at times), with the temperature always with a degree of 11°C (both day and night). As for the weather, well Friday is looking marginally better than Thursday… cloudy with the odd light shower on Thursday, brighter and likely staying dry on Friday. On both days, the most sheltered areas will be around Town and Fermain.
Surf and the Water
Very choppy 6-8 foot surf on the west coast and some great good windsurfing conditions for experts. If it’s swimming you’re interested in then maximum shelter will be essential, so Fermain Bay will probably be the best choice. Low water will be around breakfast time. High water will be at 1:20pm and 2:30pm respectively.
Saturday and Sunday (Christmas Eve)
Weather
On both days, the skies will be a mixture of cloudy and bright. There could be a shower or two on Saturday but it looks as though Sunday will probably stay dry. The wind will only be subtly different from the previous days… strong force 6 W’ly on Saturday, then WSW’ly and similarly strong on Sunday. The temperature will be slightly higher if anything, spending most of the time around 12°C and likely nudging up to 13°C on Friday.
Surf and the Water
On the west coast, we will have choppy 4-5 foot surf on Saturday, likely increasing 5-6 feet on Sunday, and both days should be great for windsurfing. If it’s swimming you’re interested in then both days will be best on the east coast. Tides will be low in the mid to late mornings, then they will be high in the late afternoons.
Monday and Tuesday (Christmas Day and Boxing Day)
Weather
Christmas Day looks set to be a day of two halves… fresh WSW’ly winds brining cloud and rain in the morning, then moderate WNW’ly breezes brining drier brighter conditions in the afternoon. Moving on to Boxing Day, the wind will back to a SSW’ly direction and gradually increase from moderate to strong, whilst the cloud gradually thickens, probably leading to a spell of rain in the late afternoon and evening. Both days will probably see a max temps of 12°C and min temps of 10°C.
Surf and the Water
Semi-clean 5-6 foot surf on Christmas Day, likely improving to really clean 6-8 foot surf on Boxing Day. Tides will be low in the mid to late mornings, then they will be low in the late afternoons. Compared to previous days, Cobo should be slightly more sheltered for the Boxing Day swim (but obviously the forecast could change between now and then).
The next forecast update will be on Saturday morning…
