Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 26 December 2023

Wednesday

Weather

Another very mild day (max 12°C, min 10°C), but not calm and settled like Boxing Day. This time it will be strong force 6-7 S’ly winds, gradually veering SW’ly... cloudy but probably dry in the morning, then raining quite heavily for the majority of the afternoon. To make the most of what little opportunity there is to get out for a comfortable walk, then pounce upon the morning in a relatively sheltered area such as Pleinmont.

Surf and the Water

Clean surf for the majority of the day, but rather choppy late afternoon… 3 feet, gradually increasing to 6 feet. Great windsurfing conditions in the morning (for experts). Tides will be high at 6:30am and 7pm (roughly 8.9m and 8.6m respectively).

Thursday and Friday

Weather

Two days of sunshine and showers. A bit of both each day, but certainly looking more in favour of the sunshine on Thursday and more in favour of showers on Friday. Winds will be strong force 6 SW’ly, but they might just slip up to strong force 7 at times (especially on Thursday afternoon). Daily max temps will be 10-11°C, nightly min temps will be 8-9°C.

Surf and the Water

Cleanish 6-8 foot surf on the west coast, and probably some super-clean 3-4 foot waves on the north coast at times. Great windsurfing conditions for experts once again. If it’s swimming you’re interested in, then the sheltered east (such as Havelet and Fermain) will certainly be your best bet. Tides will be high around breakfast time and dinner time (roughly 8.9m in the mornings and 8.5m in the evenings).

The Weekend

Weather

The wind will be mostly strong force 6… SW’ly around dawn Saturday, gradually veering to NW’ly by dusk Sunday. The wind will then fall light for a time overnight Sunday into Monday, but probably too late to have any positive effect on the weekend. Weather-wise, both days will have a mixture of sunshine and showers. Some of those showers will be decidedly heavy… hail and thunder are not out of the question. Daily max temps will be about 10°C, nightly min temps will likely be 8-9°C on Saturday night and about 7°C on Sunday night.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf should be reasonably clean on Saturday morning, but it will be messy for the rest of the time (generally 6-8 feet). As with the previous days, expert windsurfers will still find some decent opportunities on the west and north coasts, and hardened sea-swimmers might still enjoy the most sheltered eastern bays. Tides will be high at breakfast time (8.7m and 8.5m respectively) and low in the mid-afternoons.

Next Monday and Tuesday

Weather

A very nasty looking weather system looks set to either cross the Channel or perhaps stay a little further to the west. The details could change significantly from one forecast update to the next, but current expectations are for Monday to be the wettest day, with a strong force 6 S’ly wind, then for Tuesday to be the windiest day, with a gale force 8-9 W’ly wind gradually veering to strong force 6 NW’ly. Tuesday will probably see the introduction of much colder air than recent days, with hail showers likely developing and the temperatures staying in single figures throughout.

Surf and the Water

The surf will probably be 4 feet and clean on Monday, then 6 feet and very messy on Tuesday (but those details could easily change with subsequent forecast updates). Tides will be high in the mid-mornings (8.2m and 7.8m respectively) and low around dusk.

The next forecast update will be on Thursday evening or Friday morning…
