Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 05 January 2024

Saturday

Weather

There will be a few showers in the area, mainly in the morning, but they will be so sparsely scattered that we would be somewhat unlucky to get any soakings. Most of the time the skies will be quite sunny, decorated with a few tall silvery clouds. Winds will be moderate force 4 N’ly and a little bit gusty, making the meagre 8-9°C max temperature feel decidedly chilly. For a more comfortable outing, the south-coast beaches and cliff-paths would be a particularly good choice.

Surf and the Water

The cross-shore wind will be a bit of a spoiler for the surf unfortunately (4-5 feet at dawn, 3 feet by dusk). Cold water swimming conditions will be best along the south coast and in the northern corners of the west-coast bays (especially around high tide). Tidal movements will be very small, with low water around dawn and high water at 1:40pm (6.9m).

Sunday

Weather

A cloudier, colder and slightly windier day than Saturday. This time with a fresh force 5 NE’ly wind, yielding a max temp of only 6-7°C. Showers aren’t really likely until around dusk, and then it will be hit and miss until around midnight.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be tiny (1-2 feet) and all chopped up by the cross-shore wind. That wind might be fun for kite surfers though. To find shelter, if cold-water swimming is your thing, then the south coast will be your best bet again, especially around high tide. Once again those tidal movements will be very small, with low water around 9am and high water at 3pm (7m).

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

A couple of really bitter days, with strong force 6 ENE’ly winds making the 5°C air feel more like zero. Monday looking like a mostly cloudy day, then Tuesday probably being quite sunny, but both days bring the chance of a few passing showers. If we do catch a few of these showers, then the air will be cold enough for them to be wintry… just the lightest of dustings of sleet or snow, never enough to settle, so I’m certainly not expecting it to be disruptive or hazardous.

Surf and the Water

Slightly cleaner surf for these two days, picking up from about 2 feet dawn Monday to 5 or 6 feet by dusk Tuesday. Low tides will be around 10am Monday and 11am Tuesday. High tides will be around 4pm Monday and 5pm Tuesday (7.4m and 7.8m respectively).

The Rest of Next Week

Weather

Dry with mostly clear skies, whilst the wind veers slightly to a due E’ly (probably fresh force 5). The extra sunshine might just give an extra half-degree of heat each day, such that Friday peaks at the dizzy height of 7°C. Therefore hats, gloves, scarfs and extra thick coast will still be the clothing of choice.

Surf and the Water

The surf should be pretty clean throughout this time, varying between 2 and 4 feet in height. Low tides will be around lunchtime. High tides will be shortly before dawn and after dusk… increasing incrementally from about 8.2m Wednesday to 9.1m Friday.

The next forecast update will be on Monday morning…
