Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 21 January 2024

Monday

Weather

Another mild day, not quite like Sunday though… gusty force 6 W’ly winds bringing sunny spells and occasional blustery showers. The east coast should feel just as pleasant as Sunday did, but most other places won’t feel quite so comfortable. Max temps of 11°C are expected, but the wind will generally make it feel more like 6°C.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be huge and messy (about 15 feet on the west coast), perhaps a bit cleaner and certainly more manageable at Pembroke. Sheltered east coast bays like Fermain, would be the places to consider swimming. Small tides, with low water at 10:20am and high water (7.3m at 4:20pm).

Tuesday and Wednesday

Weather

Cloudy and often misty or drizzly on Tuesday, with strong force 6-7 SSW’ly winds bringing 12-13°C air to the Islands. Town and the Fermain area will feel the mildest out of everywhere, but even there it will be rather damp and grey. Wednesday could still be misty at times, but it’s looking slightly brighter in general. It should certainly feel more comfortable, because the max temperature should still be around 12°C but the wind will become significantly lighter… W’ly moderate force 4 by late morning, then SW’ly light force 3 by dusk.

Surf and the Water

Big clean surf on Tuesday (8-10 feet), potentially classic, but certainly not for novices, except perhaps at L’Ancresse. Wednesday will be about the same size, not quite so clean though… the wind onshore but not fairly light, so it could still be pretty good. Medium-sized tides, with lows around midday and highs shortly after dusk (7.6m and 7.9m respectively).

Thursday and Friday

Weather

These two days will be a bit like the previous two repeated. The timing of the drizzle won’t be quite the same on Thursday as on Tuesday, and the wind doesn’t look quite as strong, but the two days will very much have the same temperature, colour and general feeling. Likewise, Friday will have the same gentle W’ly wind as Wednesday, giving the same kind of misty brightness and generally comfortable feelings. Both days should be around 12°C, possibly creeping up to 13°C at times during the day, probably slipping down to 9 or 10°C during the night time.

Surf and the Water

Like the previous two days repeated… Thursday’s surf will be really clean and Friday’s (with a light onshore wind) will only be semi-clean. The waves won’t be quite so big though… probably 5-7 feet. Medium-large tides, with highs shortly before dawn (8.4m and 8.6m respectively) and lows at lunchtime.

The Weekend

Weather

Two days of moderate SSW’ly winds, bringing mostly cloudy skies but with hazy sunshine filtering through at times. There could be the odd spot of rain here and there, but the vast majority of it will stay over northern and western Britain, leaving us to enjoy more comfortably mild temperatures… generally with 12°C maxima by day and with 9-10°C minima by night.

Surf and the Water

Beautifully clean 6 foot surf on both days. Swimming conditions will be best in the early mornings, mainly on the north coast but also in the sheltered southern corners of the west-coast bays. Medium-large tides, with highs around dawn (8.7m) and lows in the early afternoon.

The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
