Guernsey Weather Fox

Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 24 January 2024

Wednesday

Weather

Cloudy but with reasonable visibility all morning (along with a moderate force 4 WSW’ly wind). Then, through the afternoon, as the wind relaxes to a light force 2-3 SW’ly, the cloud will become so low that mist will engulf much of the Island. Up at the airport, the mist will thicken into fog and light drizzle (especially during the evening), so there’s a high likelihood of some travel disruption. Max temperature 12°C, only dropping to 10°C quite late in the night, when the murkiness finally clears away.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be messy in the morning but increasingly clean through the afternoon. Size-wise, it’s looking like a solid 8-10 feet on the west coast, and probably a decent 3-4 feet on the north. High tides will be an hour or so before dawn and after dusk (roughly 8m) and low tide will be around midday.

Thursday

Weather

Another mostly cloudy and occasionally misty day. There will probably be a bit more drizzle than on Wednesday, but the visibility should actually be a bit better, so travel disruption is much less likely. Winds will be SSW’ly moderate force 4, gradually increasing fresh force 5, bringing more mild air to the Island (once again 12°C for the max and 10°C for the min).

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be about 6-8 feet and pretty clean. Some rideable 2-3 foot waves will be possible on the north coast but it might well turn out to be flat up there. Once again, high tides will be an hour or so before dawn and after dusk (roughly 8.3m this time) and low tide will be around 1pm.

Friday

Weather

Perhaps the sunniest day of the week, thanks to the arrival of high pressure to Northern France. Winds will be fresh force 5 WNW’ly around dawn, but these will gradually fall light, such that the are only light force 2 by late afternoon. This, combined with largely sunny skies, will mean that the 11°C top temperature feels quite lovely. Overnight however, clear spells will allow a bit of a plummet… 5-6°C being the minimum air temperature, and 0-1°C being the ground temperature.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be about 6 feet… messy in the morning and then increasingly clean through lunchtime and the afternoon. High tide will be at 7am dusk (roughly 8.5m this time) and low tide will be at 1:30pm.

The Weekend

Weather

Two days of moderate force 4 S’ly or SSW’ly breezes, bringing mostly cloudy skies but with hazy sunshine filtering through at times (especially on Saturday). There could be the odd spot of rain late Sunday, but the vast majority of that will stay over northern and western Britain, leaving us to enjoy the comfortably mild temperatures… 10°C for Saturday’s max and 11-12°C for Sunday’s.

Surf and the Water

Beautifully clean 6 foot surf on Saturday, only slightly smaller on Sunday… dropping to about 5 feet. Swimming conditions will be best in the early mornings, mainly on the north coast but also in the southern corners of the west-coast bays. Medium-large tides, with highs around dawn (8.7m) and lows in the early afternoon.

The next forecast update will be on Friday or Saturday…
