Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 27 January 2024

Sunday

Weather

A cloudy day on the whole, but there will be a difference between the morning and the afternoon. The morning being low cloud, so quite grey and possible even a bit misty on the high ground of the Island. The afternoon, however, will just have high cloud, making the sky a whitish shade of blue, with hazy sunshine just managing to filter though and brighten things up a bit. Winds will be moderate force 4 S’ly and the weather will be dry throughout, making it a good day to dry your laundry on the line. Max temp 10-11°C but feeling more like 6-7°C due to the wind-chill effect.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be 3-5 feet and super-clean… another pretty classic day, albeit with frustratingly large tidal movements. High water will be at 8:10am and low tide will be at 2:40pm. Water temperature a little over 9°C now.

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

Monday will have very similar feeling day to the preceding day. The only slight differences being that the temperature will be a degree higher, but this will be balanced out by the S’ly wind being a tad stronger (fresh force 5 on this occasion). Weather-wise, it will be dry and mostly cloudy but reasonably bright. The only threat of anything wet s during the night time, when a few spots of rain and drizzle are likely. Tuesday will be similarly cloudy but the wind will be much much lighter, dropping off to just a light force 3 W’ly. Temperatures will be a bit lower… hovering around 9-10°C, but it will probably feel more comfortable than Monday, due to the lightness of the breeze.

Surf and the Water

Another couple of days of clean surf, especially Monday. Wave heights will be about 4 feet on both days. Monday could offer kite-surfers some decent fun, then Tuesday afternoon should really be pretty good for swimmers (especially on the east coast). High tides will be at breakfast time (8.7m and 8.5m respectively), low tides will be in the mid to late afternoons.

Wednesday to Friday

Weather

Wednesday will start off with just a gentle breeze (much like that of Tuesday afternoon), but it will increase to a moderate force 4 SW’ly through the afternoon. Then the fresh force 5 WSW’ly wind will give the strongest flavour to Thursday and Friday. Wednesday should see some decent spells of sunshine which, combined with those gentle breezes, will make the 11-12°C max temperature feel very pleasant indeed. Thursday’s and Friday’s temperatures will be almost as high, but with much cloudier skies (as well as that rather perky wind) those days aren’t going to feel nearly so pleasant. Weather-wise, all three days will most likely be dry, but some patchy rain and drizzle is expected to develop on Friday night, and there is a slim chance that it could break out a bit earlier than that.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will see a tragic demise… still reasonable clean on Wednesday but only about 2 feet, then 1-3 feet of general choppy/sloppy lumpiness through Thursday and Friday. Windsurfing/kite-surfing conditions will be pretty good though. Likewise swimming conditions will be good, so long as you stick to the very sheltered eastern bays such as Fermain and Havelet. High tides will be in the mid-mornings (medium-large reducing to medium-small). Low tides will be in the late afternoons.

Next Weekend

Weather

Fresh force 5 to strong force 6 WSW’ly winds will bring cloudy skies with occasional light rain or drizzle. Temperatures will be on the mild side, steadily hovering around 11°C, but you will really need to find a sheltered area like Town or Fermain for this to feel pleasant.

Surf and the Water

More choppy sloppy surf out west, along with some decent windsurfing/kite-surfing conditions. As for decent swimming conditions, they will really be confined to sheltered eastern spots again. High tides will be 7.1m at 11:30 Saturday, then 6.8m at 12:30 Sunday. Low tides will be shortly before dawn and after dusk.

The next forecast update will be on Monday evening …
