Guernsey Weather Fox

Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 29 January 2024

Tuesday

Weather

Perhaps the nicest day of the week, on account of the partially sunny skies and the very light winds (NW’ly… force 3 in the morning and just force 2 in the afternoon). This should allow a top temp of 10°C in the afternoon, which should feel really comfortable. Overnight, however, similarly calm conditions and prolonged cloud-breaks will allow temperatures to fall right down to 4°C and we will probably see some ground frost in most areas towards dawn.

Surf and the Wate

The surf will be 3-4 feet… totally messy at dawn but becoming lovely and clean by dusk. Windsurfers might find like it best early morning, and swimmers will like it best late afternoon. High tide will be at 9:10am (8.7m) and low tide will be at 3:30pm.

Wednesday

Weather

We should enjoy fairly light SSW’ly breezes in the morning (force 3) but they will step up to moderate force 4 in the afternoon and then fresh force 5 overnight. All the while, cloud will be thickening and lowering, due to the gradual warming and moistening of the air. No rain is expected, but it is quite likely to turn misty during the night time. As for the temperature… a cold start, 5-6°C at dawn, gradually picking up to 10 or 11°C by dusk.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be smaller (only 1-3 feet) but it will be gorgeously clean. High water will be at 9:40am (8.2m). Low water will be at 4pm.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

Two days of moderate force 4 broadly W’ly winds (WNW’ly on Thursday and WSW’ly on Friday). This will bring lots of low cloud and mist. Occasionally deteriorating into drizzle and full-blown fog on the high ground of the Island (meaning that occasional travel disruption is highly likely). Both days and nights should hover between 9 and 11°C throughout.

Surf and the Water

High tides will be in the late mornings (7.9m and 7.5m respectively). Low tides will be in the late afternoon. The west-coast surf will be 1-2 feet and messy, but the windsurfing conditions should be ok there. As for a spot of winter swimming, the smoothest water for that will definitely be along the east coast.

The Weekend

Weather

With the wind staying moderate force 4 W’ly, and the temperature withing a degree of 10°C, we will likely see the same cloudy skies as through Thursday and Friday, along with occasional mist, drizzle and general murk. There is a chance that Sunday afternoon might brighten up a bit, but that’s still a long way off, so don’t be too disappointed if it never happens.

Surf and the Water

Once again, the best swimming will be out east, whilst the west coast should offer some decent conditions for windsurfing or kitesurfing. Wave-heights will generally be around 4 feet, but surfers will find it all rather choppy and lumpy. High tides will be around midday (7.1m and 6.8m respectively).

The next forecast update will be on Thursday morning …
