Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 01 February 2024

Thursday

Weather

A cloudy morning, with a decreasing N’ly wind (moderate force 4 at first, light force 2 to 3 later). Then a fairly bright afternoon, with barely any wind at all, making the 10°C max temperature feel very pleasant indeed. Overnight, the wind will stay light, but the cloud will become thick again, so this will stop the temperature from falling desperately low… probably dropping to about 6°C in the evening before bouncing back to about 9°C later in the night.

Surf and the Wate

A surprisingly good day of surf is now expected (compared to previous predictions). We are now looking at increasingly clean 4-5 foot waves. Furthermore, the swimming conditions will be increasingly smooth around the Island (always best on the south coast though). High water will be about 7.7m just after 10am. Low water will be around 4:30pm.

Friday and The Weekend

Weather

These three days (and nights) will all be so blandly similar that there would be no value in describing them all separately. The wind will be moderate force 4 WSW’ly throughout, maintaining cloudy skies and mild/moist air… generally around 10 or 11°C for the entire time, only slipping up to 12°C or down to 9°C for the briefest moments in the most sheltered areas. There will be some mist and hill-fog at times, so it won’t be surprising to see a few delays at the airport, but they should never last long.

Surf and the Water

Choppy 3-4 foot waves on each of these days, with the shrinking tidal range meaning that there should be some reasonably fun waves along the west coast at just about any time of day. Swimming conditions will always be best along the east coast. High tides will be about 7.3m at 10:40am Friday, 6.9m at 11:30am Saturday and 6.6m at 12:30pm Sunday.

Next Week

Weather

Monday to Wednesday will be just like the weekend, except that the wind will be stronger (generally force 5-6 WSW’ly) and there will be more in the way of drizzly showers. Thursday and Friday are then looking more thoroughly unsettled, with the wind backing to a strong force 7 or even gale force 8 SSW’ly, bringing some much longer spells of heavier rain. Still very mild though, perhaps even more so, with 12-13°C being the likely max for Thursday and Friday.

Surf and the Water

Swimming conditions will always be best along the east coast. Meanwhile, over on the west coast, we will have more lumpy bumpy 3-4 foot waves for surfers (pretty much every day), but wind speeds will generally be better for kite-surfing and windsurfing. Tides will be obviously be getting later each day… low in the mid to late mornings and high in the mid to late afternoons… those highs increasing from about 6.6m on Monday to 8.9m on Friday.

The next forecast update will be on Saturday evening …
