Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 03 February 2024

Sunday

Weather

It will be pretty much the same as Saturday, with cloudy skies and the slight risk of drizzle and mist patches from time to time. Winds will be a tad stronger though… force 4-5 WSW’ly, making the 10-11°C temperature feel a little more chilly than that. Town will be one of the best places to find shelter. Likewise the nearby beaches and coast-paths in the southeast of the Island.

Surf and the Water

Some reasonable windsurfing and kite-surfing conditions. Wave heights will be a little more than on Saturday too… generally 3-5 feet at your usual west-coast surf spots. Tiny tidal movements… high water will be just 6.8m at lunchtime. Low water will be about 3.7m shortly before dawn and after dusk.

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

Another couple of quite tediously similar days, with respect to perpetually cloudy skies and the likelihood or occasional mist and drizzle. The WSW’ly winds will steadily get stronger though, reaching strong force 6 by the end of Tuesday. Then, on Tuesday night, the wind will beef right up to a strong force 7 SW’ly as some heavier and more persistent rain arrives in time for Wednesday. Coming back to Monday and Tuesday though, it will be decidedly mild, with the temperature hovering between 11 and 12°C throughout.

Surf and the Water

More tiny tidal movements (highs of 6.6m at 2pm Monday and 6.9m at 3:30pm Tuesday). Unfortunately, the surf will be pretty tiny as well… 2-3 feet and weak on Monday, the 1-2 feet and even weaker on Tuesday. On the positive side however, we will have steadily improving conditions for windsurfers and kite-surfers.

Wednesday to Friday

Weather

Wednesday and Thursday will be wet and windy (strong force 6 to 7 SSW’ly), with some really juicy weather fronts sweeping through and forming much bigger puddles than the previous days. Friday is looking similarly wet but the current expectation is for the wind to relax to just a moderate force 4 SW’ly. Temperatures will be highest on Wednesday and Thursday 11-12°C, as opposed to Friday’s 10°C. But that difference in the wind will mean that all three days feel pretty much the same.

Surf and the Water

The tides will start to get bigger as we move towards the new moon. Highs will move from the late afternoon to shortly after dusk and before dawn… increasing from about 7.6m on Wednesday to 8.8m on Friday. Waves will also be a bit bigger and cleaner for surfers (most likely 4-5 feet each day).

Next Weekend

Weather

Colder air will come streaming in on a NNW’ly breeze (force 4-5). Daily maxima of just 8-9°C and nightly minima of 4-5°C. This will give the weekend a very different look and feel to the previous days. Skies will alternate between sunshine and occasional heavy showers. Hail is likely to be mixed in with the rain showers, especially on Sunday, but there will be long periods of respite in between, meaning that it could still feel quite nice in places… namely along the south coast, which will offer better exposure to the sunshine and better protection from the wind.

Surf and the Water

Bigger surf again… likely 6+ feet but also getting messier I’m afraid. The south coast will become increasingly sheltered from the wind, so that will be of interest to our cold-water swimmers. Very big tides (a sign that we are approaching the Vernal Equinox ‘woohoo’)… high around dawn and in the mid-evenings… roughly 9.5m on Saturday and 10m on Sunday.

The next forecast update will be on Monday evening or Tuesday morning…
