Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 09 February 2024

Friday

Weather

A mild day (as we have become accustomed to) with a max of 11-12°C. We should see some rare sunshine in the morning though, and perhaps in the late afternoon too. The middle part of the day looks set to be dominated by showers though (possibly heavy). Winds will be fresh force 5 SSW’ly for the most part, so the southern corners of both the east and west coast bays should offer decent shelter.

Surf and the Wate

High water will be at 6am and 6:30pm (roughly 9m). Low water will be at lunchtime. Clean 4-foot surf on the west coast.

Saturday

Weather

A most-likely dry day, with a decent amount of sunshine in the morning and early afternoon. This, combined with the moderate force 4 SSW’ly wind, should make the 11-12°C temperature feel pretty lovely compared to recent days. You might even describe it as spring-like. Showers will be here for the evening and night time though, with winds increasing significantly too, possibly as strong as force 7 around midnight, when the direction will change from SSW’ly to WNW’ly.

Surf and the Water

Beautiful 6-foot surf on the west coast. Tides will be about 9.5m high at 6:50am and at 7:15pm. Low tide will be at lunchtime again.

Sunday

Weather

The strong W’ly wind and the slightly cooler air (9-10°C) will mean that it doesn’t feel nearly as comfortable as Saturday. However, the heavy showers of the night time, will become very few and far between through the morning. Then the afternoon should be mostly sunny, so it won’t be too bad if you can find some decent shelter (east coast will be best for that).

Surf and the Water

The surf will be bigger (8+ feet) but it will unfortunately be very choppy and messy. Swimmers will find some lovely smooth water in the most sheltered eastern bays (especially Fermain). Tides will be high at 7:30am and 8pm (10.1m and 9.9m respectively). Low water will be at 2pm.

Next Week

Weather

It currently looks as though Monday and Friday will be dry, bright and relatively settled. Obviously the Friday forecast is particularly uncertain though because it is so far in the future. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are all looking very wet and windy though I’m afraid. Winds will be Either S’ly, SW’ly or W’ly for the vast majority of the week… force 3-4 on the calmest day (Monday) and force 6-7 on the windiest (either Tuesday or Thursday). Max temperatures varying between 10 and 12°C.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be mostly clean and in the 3-5 foot range. Furthermore, winds will often be good for windsurfing and kite-surfing. Tidal movements will be shrinking through the week, with highs of slightly over 10m to start with, and slightly under 8m to finish.

The next forecast update will be on Sunday…
