Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 17 February 2024

Saturday

Weather

The force 3-4 SSW’ly breeze will bring mild moist air, that moisture mainly manifesting simply as cloud, but probably turning to mist and drizzle for a brief time early morning and late evening. The temperature should hold around 11-12°C for the vast majority of the time, but it will likely reach 13°C for a brief peak in the late afternoon.

Surf and the Water

Lovely clean waves on the west coast, starting off around 2-3 feet but likely picking up to 4-5 feet by the end of the day. If you’re looking for a smooth-water swimming spot, then the southern ends of the east and west coast bays will be best. High tide will be just a little one… 7.2m at 11:50am.

Sunday

Weather

Saturday’s relatively gentle weather will have turned a bit wet and wild late in the night, but things should dry up again by late morning, leaving nothing but cloudy skies and puddles though lunchtime, then sunny skies through the bulk of the afternoon. Temperatures will be a little lower than on Saturday… just 11°C for the max. Winds will be moderate force 4 SW’ly at dawn, veering WNW’ly by late morning, then remaining that way for the rest of the day.

Surf and the Water

Choppy 8 foot surf on the west coast, marginally cleaner 3-4 foot surf on the north and south coasts. If you’re looking for a smooth-water swimming spot, then the coast will certainly be best. High tide will be tiny… 6.5m at 1:10pm.

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

Monday lunchtime is looking briefly wet and windy, but the rest of these two days should be nice and dry. Monday will have a fresh NW’ly breeze but the skies should be fairly sunny, especially in the afternoon. Tuesday will then have a moderate SW’ly with cloudier skies but perhaps a slightly higher temperature. Monday’s max should be about 11°C and Tuesday’s might just sneak up to 12°C.

Surf and the Water

Choppy 6-8 foot surf on Saturday, slightly cleaner 5-7 foot surf on Sunday. Swimmers will find that the east coast has the smoothest water on both days. Low tides will be in the mornings and hides will be in mid to late afternoons… 6.4m and 6.8m respectively.

The Rest of Next Week

Weather

This is looking like the wettest and windiest end of the week, with persistent rain, drizzle and mist on Wednesday, followed by occasional heavy showers on Thursday and Friday. Those latter showery days should have some sunny intervals as well, but that won’t do much to compensate for the strong force 6 WSW’ly wind. Temperatures should peak at about 11°C on Wednesday and Thursday, but only 9°C on Friday (that cooler air meaning that the showers will most likely have some hail mixed in with them). Overnight temperatures will only be a degree or so lower than the daytime temperatures, due to the consistency of the wind.

Surf and the Water

Big surf every day… likely around 8 feet but rather choppy except for on Wednesday, when it should be pretty clean for a time. Tides will be getting bigger, with highs before dawn and around dusk… roughly 7.4m on Wednesday, 7.9m on Thursday and 8.4m on Friday.

The next forecast update will be on Monday morning…
