Wednesday
Weather
SW’ly winds (light force 3 in the morning, moderate force 4 in the afternoon) will bring some rather misty murky weather. There will be a little light drizzle at times, mainly in the afternoon, and there will also be a little fog around the airport, but that should be patchy and intermittent, so we will probably find that flights manage to come and go with only the most minor delays. Comfortably mild… max temp 11°C, min temp 9°C.
Surf and the Water
Clean 3 foot surf on the west coast, and some decent swimming conditions on all coasts (except the south perhaps). High water will be 8.8m at 8:43am. Low water will be at 3pm.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
The most unsettled days of this working week (with the exception of that very windy Monday). These days will each see a couple of very soggy weather fronts sweeping eastwards. Thursday will be wet for the vast majority of the day (probably worst at lunchtime). Friday will be very wet around breakfast time, but the rest of the day will see an alternating pattern of sunshine and very brief but heavy showers. Both mornings will start off with strong SSW winds, then by lunchtime they will have veered to a W’ly direction. Thursday’s winds should be force 5-6, then Friday’s winds will be strong force 6-7.
Surf and the Water
The surf might be fairly clean both mornings (especially early) but it’s looking very choppy in the afternoons (especially on Thursday). Size-wise, it should be about 5 feet on Thursday, doubling to about 10 feet on Friday Windsurfing conditions should be really good throughout both days. Tides will be high in the mid-mornings (8.6m Thursday, 8.2m Friday) and low in the late afternoons.
The Weekend
Weather
It’s looking like an increasingly sunny weekend, with Saturday’s showers being so few and far between that we only catch one or two, and Sunday’s probably clearing off by breakfast time or maybe even before dawn. Saturday’s winds will be light force 3 SSW’ly in the morning, then even lighter and variable in the afternoon, meaning that the 8-9°C max should actually feel very comfortable. Sunday’s winds should be light force 3 WNW’ly all day and the temperature should peak at 9-10°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be pretty clean throughout, but it will be reducing in size… probably about 5-6 feet at the start of Saturday, reducing to 2-3 feet by the end of Sunday. Tides will be high in the late mornings (7.8m and 7.3m respectively), and they will be low in the late afternoons.
Next Week
Weather
The week will be dominated by SE’ly winds, occasionally quite light, but fresh to strong for the majority of the time. Monday will likely have a spell of persistent rain in the morning, followed by occasional showers in the afternoon. This will be due to the passage of a low pressure system through France, quite a nasty little feature but the worst of it should be a long way away… right down near Biarritz. It should then stay dry from Tuesday through until Friday, with a mixed bag of cloud and sunshine, but the wind will be a constant feature, generally making you keep your jacket on even though the daily max temperature should be a healthy 12 or 13°C.
Surf and the Water
Good clean west-coast surf every day, fluctuating between 2 and 4 feet, often with good shape and power. Swimming conditions will be best on the north coast around high tide, and in the more sheltered west-coast bays. High tides will be very small Monday to Wednesday (a little under 7m around lunchtime/early afternoon), then bigger on Thursday and Friday (moving into the late afternoon and gradually picking up to about 8m).
The next forecast update will be on Friday…
