Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 01 March 2024

Saturday

Weather

The first of two basic sunshine and showers days… the emphasis being far more upon the sunshine than the showers, because it looks as though the showers will fall almost entirely around dawn or during the overnight period. That said, we will be sitting in rather cool air, so we can’t really expect the temperature to climb any higher than 8°C or maybe 9°C in one or two lucky places (probably in Town). Winds won’t be very strong though, so it should feel pretty comfortable… light force 3 to moderate force 4 WNW’ly. Night time temperatures on the low side… just 4°C for the minimum, meaning that a ground frost will be likely in places.

Surf and the Water

The 6-8 foot surf will be choppy on the west coast, but the onshore wind will be light at times, so it could still be pretty fun in a random and lumpy kind of way. If you really want clean waves, then you might find some little novelties on the south coast if you’re lucky. Swimmers will generally favour the south and east coasts (especially the east). High tide will be about 7.9m at 10am. Low water will be at 4:20pm.

Sunday

Weather

This will pretty much be Saturday repeated, but the WNW’ly wind will drop off to light force 2-3, making it feel ever so slightly milder, possibly even allowing the thermometers to hit 9°C more widely than just in Town. The night time will be cold to start off with, but cloud will spread in after midnight and the wind will spruce up to a fresh force 5 SSW’ly by dawn. Therefore, temperatures will probably only fall to 4°C again, and if there is any ground frost then it will be pretty short-lived.

Surf and the Water

Lighter onshore winds should translate into cleaner west-coast surf. Smaller though… roughly 4 feet on the sets. Once again, the south and east coasts will be best for swimming, but the gentleness of the wind does mean that the other coasts won’t be too much worse. High tide will be about 7.3m at 10:45am. Low tide will be at 5pm.

Monday

Weather

The only properly wet and windy day of this forecast period. Force 5 SSE’ly winds in the morning, increasing to strong force 6 in the afternoon, with persistent drizzle from around 11am, turning into heavier rain around 3 or 4pm, then finally clearing off around 10pm. Temperatures will be similar to the weekend, peaking around 9°C but the stronger wind and the lack of sunshine will make you think as though it’s colder.

Surf and the Water

Good windsurfing and kite-surfing conditions. As for the waves, they will be super-clean but they will only be 3 feet at dawn, shrinking to 2 feet or smaller by the afternoon. Swimmers will probably favour any coast except the south, so long as it’s at high tide… 6.9m at 11:45am.

The rest of Next Week

Weather

Tuesday will have a moderate force 4 WSW’ly wind, but the subsequent days will all have a SE’ly… light force 3 on Wednesday, increasing force 4 to 5 on Thursday and Friday. Skies will be a mixed bag of cloud and sunshine (mostly sunshine, especially on Thursday). The only day that currently has the suggestion of showers is Friday, but that’s obviously very uncertain, being right at the end of the forecast period. Temperatures should peak around 11°C each day, but there’s a slight chance of sneaking up to 12°C on Wednesday and Thursday.

Surf and the Water

Tuesday’s surf will be 5-6 feet and choppy for most of the day, perhaps quite clean towards dusk though. All other days should have beautifully clean waves… probably 4-5 feet on Wednesday and Thursday, dropping off to 2-3 feet on Friday. High tides will be very small Tuesday and Wednesday (6.5m to 6.8m in the early afternoons), then bigger on Thursday and Friday (moving into the late afternoon and gradually picking up to about 8m).

The next forecast update will be on Monday morning…
