Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 06 March 2024

Thursday

Weather

Pristine dryness and sunshine, slightly compromised by the wind though… a fresh force 5 E’ly for the majority of the day. The temperature will peak around 11°C, which is the same as on Wednesday, but there will be greater need to seek shelter. The best places for this will be by the sea walls along the west coast. Overnight, the wind will maintain it’s strength and this will prevent the temperature from falling particularly low… probably no lower than 7°C, despite the mostly clear skies.

Surf and the Water

Pristine 4-5 foot surf on the west coast, with a relatively small tidal range meaning that there should be rideable options throughout the day. The west coast will also be the best area for sea-swimmers, but obviously in the more protected bays such as Cobo, and preferably around the time of high water. Low tide will be at 10:20am. High tide (7.6m) will be at 4:30pm.

Friday

Weather

High cloud will make the sunshine hazy early morning, then skies will gradually turn grey as that cloud thickens and lowers. Through the evening and night there will be some showery rain, but there shouldn’t be any during daylight hours. Winds, much like the previous day, will be fresh force 5 E’ly, but the cloudier skies means that the temperature will struggle to exceed 10°C by day, then probably fall no lower than 8°C by night.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean surf again, just 3 feet on this occasion. Likewise, the west coast will also be the best area for swimmers (at least around the time of high water anyway). Notably larger tidal movements than the last few days… low water will be at 11:20am, high water (8.5m) will be around 5:30pm.

The Weekend

Weather

Saturday is looking like the cloudier day, with the most frequent showers. Sunday should see quite a lot of sunshine, with the showers tending to save themselves for the night time. Winds will steadily decrease as the weekend unfolds, starting Saturday with a strong force 6 SE’ly and finishing Sunday with a force 3-4 ENE’ly. Temperatures nothing special… 10°C for the daily maxima and 7-8°C for the nightly minima.

Surf and the Water

Smaller surf on Saturday (1-2 feet), but bouncing back to around 3 feet on Sunday. The wind should be nice and offshore, but it could be irritatingly strong at times, mainly on Saturday. BIG tidal movements. Low water will be at lunchtime. High water will be around dawn and dusk (about 9.2m on Saturday and 9.8m on Sunday).

Next Week

Weather

Monday to Wednesday will have light to moderate N’ly or NE’ly winds, bringing rather cloudy skies and the odd light shower. Temperatures peaking around 9-10 °C. Thursday and Friday probably won’t be any sunnier, but they should be dry days and, as the wind changes to a SE’ly direction, the daily temperatures should pick up to 11 or 12°C.

Surf and the Water

Really BIG tidal movements for the first half of the week… highs of more than 10m Monday to Wednesday, roughly 9m on Thursday and roughly 8.5m on Friday. The surf will be pretty messy Monday to Wednesday, but the latter days of the week will become nice and clean… wave heights generally between 1 and 3 feet throughout (maybe a few 4 footers on Thursday if we are lucky).

The next forecast update will be on Friday evening or Saturday morning…
