Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 09 March 2024

Saturday

Weather

A rather wet and windy day… brief showers on and off through the morning and later in the afternoon, a longer spell of rain through lunchtime. Sunny intervals will be very few and far between… the only possibilities appear to be early morning and mid-afternoon. A max temp of only 9-10°C, meaning that it will feel similarly chilly to the previous day, perhaps a little worse, because the SE’ly wind is expected to ramp up to strong force 6 for a time around late morning and lunchtime.

Surf and the Water

Clean 2 foot surf, dropping off to 1 foot pretty rapidly in the morning, but perhaps increasing to about 3 feet towards dusk. Big tides, leading to quite a splashy east around dawn… high tide will be about 9.2m at 5:45, then again at 6:15pm.

Sunday

Weather

A much drier and sunnier day than Saturday. Furthermore the wind will be light force 2 and variable in direction, so it really is going to feel like a fine spring day. The max temp just 11°C, but this should feel comfortable enough that most people will be able to go out without needing jackets.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean 4-5 foot surf on the west coast at dawn, gradually decreasing to 3 feet by dusk. With such a lack of wind, all other coasts will be great for our cold-water swimmers. The tides will be even bigger but with the lack of wind it will only be the swell that leads to any big splashes, so that will simply be a west-coast affair. High water will be about 9.9m at 6:30am, then about 9.7m at 7pm.

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

Both days will have W’ly breezes… force 3-4 with occasional showers on Monday, force 2-3 with a reasonable amount of sunshine on Tuesday. Therefore Tuesday currently looks like the most pleasant day by a longshot, albeit with more or less the same max temperature… 11°C.

Surf and the Water

Lumpy bumpy west-coast surf… 2-3 feet each day. Swimming conditions will always be best on the east coast, but the other coasts will be reasonably smooth at times. Very large tides, with highs an hour or two after dawn and dusk… ranging between 10.1m and 10.4m.

The Rest of Next Week

Weather

A bit of a downhill trend, with Wednesday looking similarly pleasant to Tuesday… partial sunshine and a moderate S’ly breeze brining a top temp of 12°C. Thursday and Friday will firstly see that wind strengthen to fresh force 5 and gradually veer to a SW’ly direction. Furthermore, by Thursday evening showers will have started to stream across the area, some of them on the heavy side. Interestingly, however, whilst the wind and weather deteriorates, the temperature is actually expected to be higher than the previous days… peaking around 13°C each day (perhaps even 14°C in St Peter Port).

Surf and the Water

Clean 4 foot surf on Wednesday and Thursday. Rather messy on Friday, but that day will likely be really good for windsurfers and kite-surfers. Tidal movements will gradually shrink back to normality, each high a little bit smaller, Wednesday morning will have a high of 10.1m but by Friday evening the high will only be 8.4m.

The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening or Monday morning…
