Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 13 March 2024

Image uploaded by Jane Falla

Thursday

Weather

A few bright spells but generally a cloudy day with a few showers here and there… some of them light and drizzly, some of them possibly quite heavy. The wind will be a force 4 to 5 SSE’ly at dawn, gradually veering SW’ly by dusk. This will bring mild air, similar to the previous day, meaning that the temperature should peak around 13°C.

Surf and the Water

Clean 4 foot surf all day, especially in the morning. If it’s swimming that you are keen on then the north coast would be best at high tide and the east coast at low tide. Those tides a little smaller than previous days, but still pretty huge… 9.7m high at 9:15am, 1.1m low at 3:35pm.

Friday and Saturday

Weather

A couple of similar days, but with events unfolding in the opposite order… Friday will have blustery showers in the morning, followed by a dry and mostly sunny afternoon. Saturday will then start off dry with lovely light breezes, but then the wind will increase in the afternoon, ahead of some overnight rain. The wind direction will be SW’ly on Friday and S’ly on Saturday, so this means that both days will be mild again, likely peaking at 13°C. If there’s any time that might be a bit on the cool side then it would be Friday night (min temp 7-8°C), when the wind drops off to light force 3 and the skies become clear and starry for a while.

Surf and the Water

Choppy 6 foot surf on Friday, then super-clean 2-4 foot surf on Saturday. Friday will be great for wind-surfing and kite-surfing. Saturday morning will be quite the opposite, but it will get pretty windy again in the afternoon. Tides will be on the shrink, with highs of 8.9m at 9:50am Friday, then 7.9m at 10:30am Saturday.

Sunday and Monday

Weather

Light force 3 SW’ly or S’ly breezes through the majority of these two days. This will bring mostly dry conditions, but with rather cloudy and misty skies, coming from a nearby low pressure system. There is a chance (but this is currently uncertain) that this depression might actually pass over the Islands on Sunday morning, in which case we would probably see a few hours of rather heavy rain. As I said, this is uncertain though… it may well end up all over Brittany instead. Temperatures, much like the previous days will peak at 12-13°C.

Surf and the Water

And just like that the tides will become tiny… with a Sunday high of 7m at 11:10am, then a Monday high of just 6.3m at 12:30pm. As for the surf, we are looking at quite bumpy 4-5 foot waves on Sunday, followed by cleaner 3-4 foot surf on Monday.

The Rest of Next Week

Weather

Maintaining the mild SSW’ly flow through Tuesday and Wednesday, but then switching to a slightly cooler NNW’ly for Thursday and Friday. The first two days mostly dry but often rather cloudy. The second two days mostly dry as well, but this time with an impressive amount of sunshine. The UV index starting to hit 4 on such days, so don’t be surprised to see a little colour in your cheeks if you’re spending a lot of time outdoors.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be lovely and clean through Tuesday and most of Wednesday (probably around 3 feet), then it will most likely be choppy through the rest of the week (probably just 1-2 feet). The north and west coasts offering the best swimming conditions initially, then the south coast offering the smoothest water towards the end of the week. Tides will be low in the mornings and high in the afternoons (6.2m on Tuesday, increasing to 7.9m by Friday).

The next forecast update will be on Saturday evening…
