Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Saturday 21/09/2019

Saturday

Weather

A toasty hot day, with temps getting up to 23 or 24C, so that's already quite a jump on previous days but you can add the further advantage that the wind will be much lighter, dropping off to a mere force 3 SE’ly in the afternoon. It won't be nearly as cloudless as previous days though, with medium-high cloud slowly thickening and developing. The sunshine will be more hazy for the most part and we might lose it altogether by the evening, when there is also a chance of catching a thundery shower.

Surf and Tide

The west coast will certainly offer the best beach conditions, but I'm afraid the only people surfing will be a handful of lucky youngsters. Probably nobody over the age 8, but I wish those little guys the best anyway. The tide is very small (high in the late morning) so we should keep sand on all the beaches.

Sunday

A spell of heavy rain in the first half of the morning will certainly bring this September’s rainfall figures a bit closer to the climatological norm. Not great for any early morning events though (car boot sales etc). It should have all clear through by 10 or 11am though, with some sunny spells developing and only the most isolated of showers to follow. Winds will be force 3-4; SSW’ly at first, veering WSW’ly later.

Surf and Tide

Finally a bit of surf for larger humans to indulge in. Probably 1-3 feet and clean through the morning, increasing to 4 feet but getting more choppy in the afternoon. High water only 7.2m, bang on midday.

Monday and Tuesday

The start of an increasingly soggy and turbulent week. Some outstanding surf on Monday, but an increasing S’ly wind (force 5-6 by late evening) and some proper heavy showers in the second half of the day. Make the most of the morning if you can. As for Tuesday, winds will stay just as strong but veer to a due SW’ly. Once again, there should be a mix of sunshine and a few heavy showers.

The Rest of Next Week

Wednesday and Thursday are looking very stormy. We might just see the UK or Irish Met Offices name the first one of this season. I believe it would be ‘Atiyah’ if that's the case. Winds will be force 6-7 WSW’ly for the most part, so I expect the trees will be stripped of lots of leaves and conkers, and probably a few of their larger limbs. As for rainfall, I'm expecting a few longer spells of rain and maybe the odd misty and murky moment. But at this early stage, the details are obviously very uncertain.

The next Forecast update should be with you on Sunday evening.
