Guernsey Weather Fox

Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 22 March 2024

Saturday

Weather

Sunshine and showers, some of them heavy and most probably with hail. The airflow will be a cold and gusty WNW’ly… force 5-6 for the most part, perhaps occasionally strong force 7. The actual max temperature will be about 9°C, but the wind-chill effect will make it feel more like 3-4°C.

Surf and the Water

Great windsurfing and kite-surfing conditions. Surfers will find rideable west-coast waves but they will be proper choppy and messy (4-5 feet). As an alternative, there could be some cleanish 1-2 foot novelty waves down at Petit Bot, but it would probably be more rewarding to simply make the best of the west-coast mush. High water will be around dawn and dusk (roughly 8.4m) and low tide will be around midday.

Sunday

Weather

The showers should have died out around dawn, maybe even sooner, leaving us with a dry and partly sunny day. Furthermore, the wind will be decreasing (force 5 at dawn, force 3 by dusk), so it will feel more and more comfortable as the day progresses (10-11°C for the max).

Surf and the Water

Some decent windsurfing and kite-surfing conditions first thing in the morning, before the rest of the day becomes increasingly focussed on surfers… the waves about 3-4 feet and reasonably clean by dusk. Swimmers will find some nicer conditions than on Saturday, but it would still be advisable to stick to the shelter of an eastern bay like Fermain. High water will be around dawn and dusk (roughly 8.7m) and low tide will be at 12:40pm.

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

Some bright intervals are likely, but it will be mostly cloudy with occasional rain on both days. This will be due to a low pressure system being close by to the west on Monday (giving us a force 5 SSE’ly wind) and close by to the south on Tuesday (giving us a similarly perky ESE’ly). Temperatures will probably nudge up to 11 or even 12°C, but the wind and weather will make it feel quite a bit cooler than that.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean surf, just 1-2 feet on Monday, but likely increasing to 4-6 feet on Tuesday. The wind strength is uncertain, but it looks more likely than not to be pretty good for windsurfing and kite-surfing too. High tides will be about 9.1m at breakfast time. Low tides will be in the early afternoons.

Wednesday to Friday

Weather

Three days of SSW’ly winds. Sometimes strong and showery, sometimes gentler and drier. The air will be consistently mild though, so we should see daily maxima return to the teens, probably 13, 14 and 15°C respectively.

Surf and the Water

The surf will most likely be 4-6 feet and clean throughout. It’s not guaranteed at this stage but it’s looking highly likely to be a very special week of waves. High tides will be at breakfast time (a great time for a swim around L’Ancresse), decreasing incrementally from 9m on Wednesday to 8.6m on Friday. Low tides will be in the mid-afternoons.

The next forecast update will be on Saturday morning…
