Monday
Weather
Cloudy but likely dry until late afternoon or perhaps even some time late evening. Skies will be cloudy all the while though, with only a few slithers of brightness managing to slip through the cracks. Winds will be SSE’ly, bringing relatively mild air to the Islands, but it will be force 4-5, so its not going to feel very warm. Max daytime temperature… 11-12°C. Min night time temperature 7-8°C.
Surf and the Water
Clean 1-2 foot surf, maybe 3 feet around dawn and dusk. Windsurfing conditions should be pretty good through the middle part of the day. As for swimming, the west and north coasts will be best, especially around high tide, when the sea walls will offer the best wind protection. High water will be 9.1m at 6:50am. Low water will be at 1:15pm.
Tuesday
Weather
Once again, it will be mostly cloudy but dry, only the chance of a little rain at times, mainly early morning and late evening. Winds will be quite a lot lighter than on Monday though, just force 2-3 WSW’ly for most of the day, so it will feel much more comfortable, even though the temperature isn’t expected to be any higher. The most likely time for some sunshine to slip between the clouds will be in the late afternoon. However, at that time the sun will be quite low and the wind will begin to pick up to moderate force 4, so it’s not expected to really add any heat. The daytime max should be 11-12°C again. Then during the night time, as the wind gradually changes to a strong force 5 S’ly, the temperature should hold pretty steady at 8-9°C.
Surf and the Water
Clean surf through most of the day, 3 feet gradually increasing to 6 feet, but possibly turning quite messy around dusk. Swimming conditions should be good all around the Island through the day time, but the smooth water will probably be confined to the east coast around dusk. High water will be 9.3m at 7:20am. Low water will be at 1:40pm.
Wednesday to Friday
Weather
Three showery days, Wednesday and Thursday being both the wettest and the windiest. Some of the showers on those days could be heavy enough to produce a bit of hail, and that will certainly sting a bit, because the wind will be a strong force 6 SSW for the majority of the time. On Friday, the brief sunny intervals will be replaced by long sunny periods, and the showers will change from frequent and heavy to few and relatively light. Furthermore, the wind should change to a force 4-5 SSE’ly, meaning that the temperature should reach 12-13°C and life should generally feel more comfortable.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be clean for the vast majority of the time, although the strength of the cross-offshore wind will make paddling difficult on Thursday. Windsurfing conditions will obviously be best at that time though. West-coast wave heights will be about 6 feet on Wednesday and Friday, but probably double that on Thursday, meaning that the north coast could be good on that day. High tides will be at breakfast time… 9.2m, 9m and 8.7m respectively. Low tides will be in the early afternoons.
The Weekend
Weather
Very light winds, with lots of sunshine and only the slim chance of a shower. This should allow the temperature to reach 14°C and feel extremely comfortable and spring-like. The wind direction will most likely be E’ly, meaning that the west coast will probably be the warmest area (by a whisker).
Surf and the Water
Clean 5 foot surf Saturday morning, gradually reducing to 2-3 by Sunday afternoon. Great swimming conditions on all coasts through Saturday, but generally confined to the west coast on Sunday. Tides will be high in the mid-mornings and low in the late afternoons.
The next forecast update will be on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning…
