Tuesday
Weather
A bright start, gradually clouding over through the morning, before rain and drizzle sets in around 11am or midday. That rain will be quite heavy and persistent for 3-4 hours (perhaps with mist and hill-fog), before turning patchy and intermittent. Winds will be force 5 SSW’ly in the morning, backing to moderate force 4 SSE’ly in the afternoon. All resulting in a daytime max temp of 12°C and an overnight min temp of 9°C.
Surf and the Water
Clean surf, especially in the afternoon… 5-6 feet at dawn, dropping to 3-4 feet by dusk. Swimming conditions will be best in the north and west around high tide, for maximum shelter. Tides will be low around dawn and dusk and high at lunchtime (6.8m).
Wednesday
Weather
Mostly sunny and mostly dry. Just the slimmest chance of a light shower in the main part of the day (probably won’t happen), then the more definite arrival of some rather heavy showers in the evening. Winds will be force 4 to 5 WSW’ly, bringing air of average temperature for early April… a daytime max temp of 13°C, followed by an overnight min temp of 9°C.
Surf and the Water
Choppy 3-4 foot surf for most of the day. Perhaps a bit cleaner around dawn and dusk but the tide will be low at those times. High water will be about 6.6m at 2pm. As for the swimming conditions, the east coast will generally be best, but Pembroke will also be nice and smooth.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
A low pressure system will be centred somewhere to the west but it’s a little uncertain just how deep and how close it will be. Thus, we can be sure that it will be windy and often wet, but we can’t be sure about the precise details of this nastiness. Latest expectations are for Thursday to have force 5-6 SW’ly winds, mostly cloudy skies and occasional heavy showers. Frida looks just as cloudy but probably much drier through daylight hours, with force 5-6 SSE’ly winds. As I say, these details are uncertain, so they could easily change in timing and intensity, but the general story will never be wildly different. Max temps will likely be 12-13°C on Thursday, then 14-15°C on Friday.
Surf and the Water
Much like the previous days this week, windsurfing and kite-surfing conditions will be great. Tides will be low in the mid to late mornings, then high in the late afternoons (7m and 7.7m respectively). The surf will be 4-6 feet and fairly clean on Thursday, then very clean on Friday.
The Weekend
Weather
A bit like the previous two days repeated, with similar uncertainty about the precise details, but with reasonable confidence that temperatures will be on the high side, although it will be wet at times and the winds will be brisk S’ly or SW’ly. Max temps will likely be 15-16°C on Saturday, then about 14°C on Sunday.
Surf and the Water
Tides will be low at lunchtime and high around dawn and dusk (increasing incrementally from 8.4 to 9.2m). Windsurfing and kite-surfing conditions will be great again. As for the surf, that should be 3-4 feet and really clean on Saturday, then 4-6 feet and fairly clean on Sunday.
The next forecast update will be on Thursday morning…
