Thursday
Weather
A few showers around breakfast time and perhaps a little bit beyond, but then the sun should shine through the second half of the morning and lunchtime. Moving through the afternoon however, skies will cloud over and then we will have patchy rain from around 3pm, maybe turning a bit drizzly and misty before finally clearing off late evening. All the while we shall have rather brisk winds… force 5 SW’ly, backing S’ly late afternoon. Temperatures climbing to a reasonable 14°C, but the wind and the occasional wet weather will mean that it never feels too special.
Surf and the Water
Sloppy 4 foot chop at dawn, increasing to about 6 feet of proper swell by dusk. Windsurfing conditions will also be good out west, whilst swimming conditions will be best on the north and east coasts. Tides will be low at 9:45am and high at 4pm (6.9m).
Friday
Weather
With the winds remaining S’ly (force 4-5), the mild air will continue to stream in, meaning that we should climb to 15°C, albeit with mostly cloudy skies and with patchy light rain though the second half of the afternoon.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean 6 foot surf and some reasonably good kite-surfing conditions. Swimmers will find the smoothest water on the north coast. Tides will be low at 11am and high at 5:10pm (7.8m).
The Weekend
Weather
Saturday is a tricky day to determine. It should be dry until evening, and reasonably bright through at least the first half of the day, albeit rather cloudy. The issue is that the SSW’ly wind will be strong force 6, which means it will be bringing very warm air from France, Spain and beyond, and it will also be brining the influence of the cool seawater that surrounds us. Without being sure about which influence will get the upper hand, it seems reasonable to go with a max temp of 16°C, but there is a chance that it could be 2-3°C higher than that, which would make it the warmest day of the year by a long shot. Either way, the fact that a cold front will bring a little rain in the evening and then introduce slightly cooler air for Sunday, it looks as though we couldn’t hope for any more than 15°C on that final day of the weekend. It should feel very pleasant though, as the SSW’ly wind gradually drops to moderate force 4 and the skies will be lovely and sunny for the vast majority of the day.
Surf and the Water
Tides will be low at lunchtime and high around dawn and dusk (increasing incrementally from 8.4 to 9.2m). Windsurfing and kite-surfing conditions will be great on Saturday and reasonably good on Sunday. As for the surf, that should be clean and varying in size between 5 feet at the smallest and 8 feet at the biggest.
Next Week
Weather
The unsettled theme is set to continue, with occasional rain or showers through the first half of the week. We will also have very strong (perhaps even gale force) SW’ly winds picking up through late Monday and early Tuesday, before veering NW’ly by Tuesday night and only easing slowly through Wednesday. After that we should enjoy a gentle W’ly flow to finish the working week, and there is a high chance of the weather being dry and largely sunny at that time. This will all result in daily max temps slipping by about a degree per day, Monday to Wednesday, before jumping up about half a degree per day on Thursday and Friday.
Surf and the Water
Tides will be high in the mornings and evenings (spring tides, peaking at 10m on Tuesday and Wednesday). Windsurfing and kite-surfing conditions will be great at times and slack at others. Wave heights will generally be 3-4 feet on the smallest days and 5-8 feet on the biggest days.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday morning…
