Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 09 April 2024

Wednesday and Thursday

Weather

A couple of cloudy days compared to that fabulously sunny (if rather windy) Tuesday. The only sunshine we are likely to see is for about half an hour around dawn on Wednesday and then maybe an hour or two before dusk on Thursday. Wind-wise, the moderate force 4 SSW’ly will bring increasingly moist air through Wednesday, before veering WSW’ly and gradually becoming slightly drier through Thursday. Rain and drizzle will be with us for a lot of the time between late morning Wednesday and mid-morning Thursday, and we are also likely to see some mist and hill fog at times, so there will no doubt be a little bit of disruption up at the airport. Max temperatures 13 and 14°C respectively.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean 3 foot surf on Wednesday, followed by semi-clean 4-5 foot surf on Thursday. Swimming conditions should be good in the more sheltered west coast spots, but the smoothest areas will really be the north coast on Wednesday and then the east coast on Thursday. Tides still pretty huge, with highs of slightly less than 10m on Wednesday (8:30am and 8:50pm), then highs of about 9.5m on Thursday (9:15am and 9:30pm).

Friday and The Weekend

Weather

Three rather bland days, with mostly cloudy skies and only a few brief sunny spells here and there. Winds will be light force 3 S’ly on Friday, then moderate force 4 W’ly through the weekend. Friday and Saturday both look convincingly dry, but there is a question mark hanging over Sunday. Some forecast models are predicting an area of rain to hang over us for the majority of the day, whilst other models put that same area of rain over Brittany instead. Hopefully there will be a bit more certainty about that detail by the time of my next update. Either way, temperatures will be higher than average on Friday (probably peaking at 16°C) and then they are likely to decrease by a degree or two per day as we go through the weekend.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean 5 foot surf on Friday, then choppier sloppier 3-4 feet through the weekend. Tides will be high in the late mornings and the late evenings (9.1m gradually decreasing to 7.6m). Low tides will be in the late afternoons.

Next Week

Weather

It looks like a week of moderate force 4 WNW’ly winds, except on Monday and Tuesday when it could be strong force 6 and fresh force 5 respectively. These winds will bring relatively cool air (temperatures peaking somewhere between 11 and 13°C each day) and the weather will be sunshine and showers… the emphasis being much more on the sunshine than the showers. The east and south coasts will always feel more comfortable than the other coasts.

Surf and the Water

Messy surf every day 5-6 feet on Monday, reducing to 2-3 feet by Wednesday and likely staying that way through Thursday and Friday. Windsurfing conditions will be good on the north and west coasts through Monday and Tuesday. Swimming conditions will always be best on the east and south coasts. Tidal movements will be tiny all week with highs at lunchtime Monday and Tuesday, moving into the late afternoons through the rest of the week.

The next forecast update will be on Friday morning…
