Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Monday 23/09/2019

Monday

Weather

As with every other day this week, the overarching theme is unsettled. There will barely be a day that doesn't have the prefixes ‘heavy’ or ‘strong’ attached to rain and wind. Given that the moment of the autumnal equinox will be shortly before dawn, the weather all seems quite appropriate. The equinox is the point when the sun is directly over the equator, neither favouring the northern or the Southern Hemisphere, so nowhere on the planet can either claim it as winter or summer. Anyway, the weather for Guernsey… Fresh force 5 to strong force 6 S’ly winds and persistent rain from late morning until evening. Overnight, we will only get a few isolated showers; drizzly at first but increasingly heavy after midnight, possibly even with a few flashes and rumbles.

Surf and Tide

Fantastic west-coast surf, relative to the recent dearth. 3-5 feet and clean with very small tides. High water; 7m at 1:20pm.

Tuesday

Heavy showers early and late, possibly thundery. If any time is going to be dry and possibly bright then it's the middle part of the day. It's not going to feel too toasty at lunchtime though, because the wind will be a force 5-6 WSW’ly. If you're seeking a sheltered spot for a nice walk, then head towards Pleinmont if you're on the west coast, or head to the Fermain area if you’re around Town.

Surf and Tide

Choppier waves than Monday, but still good for a surf on the west coast, with plenty of 5-6 footers coming through. Low water only 3.9m at 9am, high water 7.2m at 3:10pm.

Wednesday

A damp day again but probably just drizzly, so not really forming any big puddles, especially as the force 6 to 7 wind will dry things out almost as quickly as they get wet. This time the winds will be due W’ly, So Town and the Fermain area will definitely be the most comfortable places..

Surf and Tide

A big jump in wave height; 10 feet or more on the west coast but absolutely wild. Probably best left to hardcore windsurfers. As for the tides, low water will be 3.3m at 10:30am, high water 7.9m at 4:30pm.

Thursday and Friday

A couple more rough days, with fresh to strong SW’ly winds. The rainfall detail is uncertain, but it currently looks as though the bulk of the rain will be overnight between the two days, whilst the rest of the time is only peppered with a few brief showers.

The Weekend

It's just too uncertain to say at the moment, because it looks as though we will be caught in between low pressure systems. The wind will probably be lighter than during the week, but it could be from just about anywhere on the compass, making the detail impossible to pin down. However, I can say that it's very unlikely to be dry. As with the entire week before it, temperatures should peak in the high teens each day, which according to local climatology, is absolutely average for late September.

The next Forecast update should be with you on Tuesday evening.
