Tuesday
Weather
Force 4-5 S’ly winds will bring ever thickening cloud, as a weather front approaches very slowly from the west. Initially the cloud will be high and relatively thin, allowing some pleasant hazy sunshine. It will be pretty grey by lunchtime though, and then that greyness will turn to wetness by the late afternoon and the rain might even be quite heavy for a time during the evening. The max temperature should be either 14 or 15°C, just depending how long we can hang onto that hazy sunshine for.
Surf and the Water
Clean 2 foot surf, maybe the odd 3 footer, but all a bit weak and sloppy. A bit breezy at times, so it would pay to find a sheltered spot if going for a swim. The north and west coasts will be better than the other coasts, and high tide will be best in terms of timing… 7.4m at 11:20am. Low tide will be at 5:30pm.
Wednesday
Surf and the Water
The best surf day of the week, providing you get in before the wind changes (late afternoon). Waves should be 3-4 feet and slightly more powerful than the previous day. The winds will be so light in the morning and early afternoon that all coasts will be good for swimmers. The tide will be low at breakfast time and dinner time, and it will be high at lunchtime (7m).
Thursday and Friday
Weather
Fresh W’ly winds on Thursday, gradually backing and slacking to light S’ly by the end of Friday. This means that it will feel chilly to start but it will gradually feel warmer and warmer, especially because it will gradually become sunnier and sunnier, meaning that Friday afternoon/evening should be make an excellent start to the long weekend. Max temps should be about 13°C on Thursday, then 15°C on Friday.
Surf and the Water
The surf will still be 3-4 feet on Thursday, but it will be a right old choppy onshore mess. That will make for good windsurfing and kite-surfing conditions though. Friday’s waves should become much cleaner, but unfortunately much smaller too (2 feet and weak). Of the two days, Friday will generally be the better one for swimmers, although Thursday will be ok in the mega-shelter of Fermain Bay. Low tides will be around breakfast time and dusk. High tide will be around 2pm on Thursday and 3:30pm on Friday.
The Weekend
Weather
Winds will fluctuate between S’ly or SW’ly wind, mostly moderate force 4 but occasionally fresh force 5. This will likely bring a mixed bag of sunny spells, cloudy spells and showers… some of them perhaps on the heavy side. Once again, max temperatures will depend on the precise timing of events, but it should all be on the mild side, most likely peaking between 14 and 16°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf looks either very small or flat through Saturday and the first half of Sunday, but there is a chance of some rideable swell developing through Sunday afternoon and evening. Low tides will be in the late mornings. High tides will be in the late afternoons (medium-large… 7.9m and 8.5m respectively).
The next forecast update will be on Thursday evening…
