Guernsey Weather Fox

Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 08 May 2024

Liberation Day

Weather

Some low cloud and maybe a little mist early morning, soon burning off to become fabulously sunny and warm again. The breeze will a force 3 E’ly, bringing the influence of French heat as well as the heat we generate from our own share of the sunshine. Temperatures should therefore peak at a very respectable 19°C, with a max UV of 7 (so don’t forget to protect your skin).

Surf and the Water

Clean Knee-high surf on the west coast (maybe waist high in the late afternoon and evening). That’s also where the smoothest swimming conditions will be (although the other coasts will be almost as lovely). High water will be at 8:10am and 8:30pm (roughly 9.4m). Low water will be at 2:30pm.

Friday and Saturday

Weather

Sunny and sunny, simple as that… winds will be force 3 ENE’ly on both days and the max temperatures will be about 21°C. Head to the west coast or the south coast for the absolute best of it, but don’t forget to protect your skin from that strong sunshine.

Surf and the Water

Cleanish waist high surf on Friday, dropping to knee high on Saturday. Lovely swimming conditions on the west coast and almost as lovely on the south. High tides will be around breakfast time and soon after dusk (9.2m decreasing incrementally to 8.7m). Low tides will be in the mid-afternoons.

Sunday

Weather

A cloudier day but most likely dry, with showers not expected to arrive until sometime after midnight. The wind will be almost flat calm… just a light force 2 S’ly, so it should feel almost as warm and lovely as the previous days. Max temp 18-19°C

Surf and the Water

Clean dribbly 1 foot waves for most of the day, but possibly some more powerful 2-3 footers in the evening (just possibly). Fabulous swimming conditions on all coasts… High water at 10:10am and low water at 4:25pm.

Next Week

Weather

Ooh dear, just when it looked so settled and calm, a complete switch-around is on the cards. This is because a low-pressure system is going to slide in from the Atlantic early Monday, and then just loiter in the mouth of the Channel for the rest of the week. This means 5 days with rain… not constant rain, mainly short sharp showers but one or two longer spells. Plenty of dry interludes, and some sunny spells, but basically every day will include some of the wet stuff. Winds will be mostly moderate force 4 SW’ly, but sometime they might be fresh force 5 and sometimes they will veer to a straight W’ly direction. Temperatures will peak in the mid-teens every day (14-16°C).

Surf and the Water

Messy 2-4 foot surf most days. At least that will be better than flat. Plenty of good windsurfing and kite-surfing opportunities. Swimming conditions will most likely b e best along the north and east coasts. High tides initially in the late mornings, but getting later day by day until they will be in the mid-afternoons on Thursday and Friday.

The next forecast update will be on Saturday evening…
